I don't know much about her in terms of her charm and likeability(only through the lens of the media) but I do know that no-one ever threw their hat into the ring with greater understanding of what the job entailed or who had been better prepared to do it.
Just in case you haven’t noticed, America, there is something very wrong with your president.
You know, and I know this is a comparison I go back to often but I think it shows something meaningful, George W. Bush might have had one of the worst cabinets/inner circles in years... but at least he understood he needed to have a cabinet/inner circle.
I was a "George W. Bush was far more incompetent than evil" guy even back during his Presidency and, one of his worst failings as a leader was he was really, really bad at who he surrounded himself with.
But at least that was just him being bad at it, not rejecting the concept and pretending he could go at it alone and fire everyone who wasn't a pure Yes-man.
So Trump is going to spend a few more days in the swanky hotel called The White House and a few less days in the swanky hotel called Mars a Lago, for neither of which he has to pay. Does he really expect people to feel sorry for him?
Just in case you haven’t noticed, America, there is something very wrong with your president.
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) is expressing concerns after President Trump tweeted that he did “not know” his top envoy in the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Brett McGurk.
“Uhhhh...you don’t know your own coordinator of the anti-ISIS campaign?” Murphy tweeted late Saturday. “Over the past 5 years, no one has done more to put ISIS on its heels than Brett. We all know and rely on him.”
“The fact that our President has no clue who Brett is should scare the hell out of every American.”
...
“Brett McGurk, who I do not know, was appointed by President Obama in 2015,” the president tweeted. “Was supposed to leave in February but he just resigned prior to leaving. Grandstander? The Fake News is making such a big deal about this nothing event!”
Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) blasted President Trump on Sunday after Trump claimed that the Republican was forced to retire after not getting the president's support.
"Yes, just like Mexico is paying for the wall," Corker tweeted, before using the hashtag "#AlertTheDaycareStaff."
By tapping former Boeing executive Patrick Shanahan to temporarily replace famed former Marine Gen. James Mattis as Secretary of Defense, President Trump may have found a like-minded advocate for the U.S. weapons industry.
Shanahan is a controversial choice. During Shanahan's two-year stint as Mattis's deputy defense secretary, Boeing has landed a series of lucrative military contracts worth $20 billion, on top of the Chicago company's previous deal to build aerial-refueling tankers and naval fighters for the Pentagon.
...
But in Shanahan, he does have a someone who is likely to share his interest in business. Trump has ordered diplomats to prioritize foreign sales of American-made arms. “Patrick has a long list of accomplishments while serving as Deputy, & previously Boeing," Trump tweeted. "He will be great!”
Shanahan said during his 2017 Senate confirmation hearing that technology, not strategy, is his expertise.
"I believe my skill set strongly complements that of Secretary Mattis," Shanahan said. "He is a master strategist with deep military and foreign policy experience. As deputy secretary of defense and Secretary Mattis’ chief operating officer, I bring strong execution skills with background in technology development and business management."
Pentagon ethics rules require Shanahan to recuse himself from any decisions regarding Boeing. But the plane-maker, which historically places second behind Lockheed Martin as America's biggest defense contractor, has enjoyed a chain of successes winning major competitive contracts.
EVERY decision trump makes is bad. This applies even when it is ostensibly good. Take the Syria decision for example.
Taking into account the fact that Trump says he opposes Iran, how is it "ostensibly good" to allow them (and Russia and Turkey, both of which are usually and often hostile towards American interests respectively) completely free reign in imposing their designs on Syria after its devastating civil war?
It's very likely that Iran will seek to set up paramilitary proxy forces along the Israeli-Syrian border, comparable to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Turkey doesn't like Israel very much and Israels attempts to have Russia rein in and restrain Iran has gone nowhere. Although their interests do not align and they are likely to come into conflict it's highly questionable whether Russia or Turkey would do anything significant to restrain Iranian aggression against Israel.
Simply cutting and running like this is, if anything, making further armed conflicts more likely. The Iraq war gave Iran a client state and now it's getting another one seeing as Syria is almost totally dependent on Iran (and to a lesser degree Russia).
Yea, a sternly worded statement.
I wish they would actually DO something about Trump.
