If he claims to have $9 billion and if he claims to love America, then why doesn’t he pony up $5 billion. I’m pretty sure a guy in his 70s who will have armed bodyguards for the rest of his life could live very comfortably on the remaining $4 billion.

Mattis finally had enough of his looney boss and resigned. Trump lied that Mattis was 'retiring'. He quit. Syria was the last straw.
How many does this make now?

The letter is actually more damning than this quote. Mattis basically says alliances matter, Russia & China are not our friends, I've formed these opinions over 40 yrs, you disagree with me so goodbye.

Trump Tweeted a response

General Jim Mattis will be retiring, with distinction, at the end of February, after having served my Administration as Secretary of Defense for the past two years. During Jim’s tenure, tremendous progress has been made, especially with respect to the purchase of new fighting....

....equipment. General Mattis was a great help to me in getting allies and other countries to pay their share of military obligations. A new Secretary of Defense will be named shortly. I greatly thank Jim for his service!

If you read everything 4th letter of every 5th word in the letter, it spells out "Trump, you are ******* moron!".

Jesus. I have been making it a point of not looking at any one thing as the last straw, but this is bad.

Will the people who support Trump have any idea of the damage he is doing to the country? He had 3 generals, 4 counting Flynn who would probably have taken a bullet for him. No, not probably: who would have. Flynn went a little "funny" in the head, but no one doubted that he was a competent warrior. These men are deeply patriotic and felt the strongest possible call to duty. Yet Trump has driven them all off. Think of all they know that we don't.

Retiring is quitting. Everybody knows that. Miller can call it whatever he wants.

It may actually come to that. Pardon Flynn and take him back on board. The most optimistic thing I can think right now is that Trump has no effective chain of command. With any luck that will paralyze him.
