People are saying that Judge Sullivan was "unprofessional" in his courtroom demeanor and it's exactly like when people were mad at Judge Ellis and it feels like Groundhog Day in here.

Judges lose their temper. They say dumb things. This is not unusual.

/2 I'm not saying "stop aspiring for humans to be better at self-governance."

I'm saying "if you could stop treating every ridiculously mundane thing like it's a ******* comet hitting the earth, that would be swell."

Indeed. It's come to that. At best, the judge demonstrated a poor understanding of the case that prevents him from being able to formulate an appropriate sentence for the defendant. At worst, he showed #bias sufficient to cause his recusal from the case. #Flynn

Another "legal beagle" chimes in with astute analysis.

here is another good point:

Flynn should dump Covington because there ain't no way those silk stocking lawyers have the stones to ask Sullivan to do the right thing.

Justice for Flynn.

Dump Covington? Why? So he can pay some other attorney 6 figures in legal fees simply to help Flynn plead guilty to a crime where the state has recommended ZERO jail time?

Ask Sullivan to do the right thing? And what pray tell is the right thing? To recuse himself from choosing somewhere between ZERO and SIX months?

Stones? It takes STONES to throw your own client under the bus? Let's for lunacy sake take your advice. Let's ignore the client when he chooses to plead guilt to a minor crime where he may be only sentenced to a maximum of 6 months and where the prosecution has recommended ZERO time and instead be indicted for far more serious crimes.

That kind of stones? Or do you mean stupidity? That's the dumbest, most moronic suggestion I've ever heard. And what do you do when the judge says "NO"?

That twitter thread TBD linked to has the most amazing examples of cognitive dissonance.

It's obvious to me that Trump has particular appeal to amateur and amateurish lawyers who can't admit they are wrong. What a constituency!

Sigh, it was literally a simple yes or no question...

28 USC 455

(a) Any justice, judge, or magistrate judge of the United States shall disqualify himself in any proceeding in which his impartiality might reasonably be questioned.
(b) He shall also disqualify himself in the following circumstances:
(1) Where he has a personal bias or prejudice concerning a party, or personal knowledge of disputed evidentiary facts concerning the proceeding;

personal affirmation time, TBD....

From the Code of Judicial Conduct for Federal Judges. Judge Sullivan should recuse himself after his tirade yesterday.

Amen brother!

How can you try to unring the bell when you threw an accusation like treason on the ******* table?

Outrageous.

This is how the person that TBD is quoting describes himself:

The Dumb **** TBD is quoting said:
Lawyer, drummer. Kid Rock Fan. Opinions my own. Favorite Song: Baby, It's Cold Outside. Nationalist. Merry Christmas to The Weekly Standard employees.

Location: Cookeville, TN

Sure, no bias there at all. He only absolutely loves every single thing the right wing numbnuts like, including Kid Rock (what the ****? Who actually listens to Kid Rock), and describes himself as a Nationalist.

In case anyone actually thought that this guy might be credible, don't worry. He's not. Moving on.

Given some of the opinion leaders in this realm, maybe it just seems like law and other fields are ripe for the picking for a self-taught "expert."
  • Joseph Farah is a journalist
  • Orly Taitz is a lawyer
  • Jerome Corsi has a PhD
  • James Watt is a climate scientist

And claims "Baby, It's Cold Outside" as his favorite song. This is a new meme, since the fake "outrage" about the song being rapey was from several years ago (it had its own thread here and was roundly dismissed) but now it's been picked up by the right-wing echo chambers and their take on it is that it triggers liberal snowflakes.

Which is news to liberal snowflakes.

OK, Where is the bias? I don't think you have a ******* clue what that means.

Where is the evidence of personal bias or prejudice?

Did he know General Flynn before this case? Nope.
Did he have some personal reason that would prevent the judge from ruling fairly? I know of NONE. And NEITHER do you. In fact, right up to the proceeding you were suggesting that the judge was going to come down hard on the government.

Being mistaken for a couple of minutes does not constitute bias.

Get a grip.

We can add you being wrong about what happened in court in December to you being wrong about what happened in a court in may. Regardless of what you think of Mueller, none of your arguments carry any water when they make their case in court. They are proving to be simply better at this than you.

You know, when you actually have an opinion on something, you may find people agree with you. As in this case.

He apologized for saying that Flynn had worked for Turkey when he was NSA.

And actually, the Judge may have been right on that.

Someone in the executive branch (and we don't know who exactly) asked the FBI for a review of the evidence against Fethullah Gülen in order to see if he could be extradited to Turkey. It is not known whether this request came at the behest of someone in the Executive Branch, or as a result of a request from Erdogan, though the State Department.

This was while Flynn was still National Security Advisor, so he had to have known about it, and given his previous involvement in attempts to extradite Gülen (and his involvement in discussions about an extraordinary rendition plot to kidnap Gülen and return him to Turkey) its not beyond possibility that Flynn had something to do with the request. If he did, then he was still working for the Turks while serving as NSA.
