No what Trump proposed was a full new branch. A space force to go along with the air force. This Space Command is simply not the space force that he was talking about.

THe goal is Space Force as a full military branch, it won't happen like his wall because of the massive stupidity of the idea but that is what this is being sold as a start toward.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/18/politics/trump-space-command-creation/index.html

So a united command of the militaries space assents(of course CIA and NSA assets are not counted in this) might make some sense but it isn't being sold in a sensible fashion. The goal is still Space Force.

So you are wrong, what is being implemented is that, but what is being proposed is a full sixth branch of the military.
I think what is more likely is that someone tried to talk to him about the type of space command joemorgue talks about, when that passed through the Trump filter it became "space men with zappy laser guns".

Actually, they have a central idea that explains their hatred of the ACA, namely, that government is part of the problem, not part of a solution. They simply cannot abide any program that is run by the government - especially if it is successful. This is similar to their constant harping on entitlements as if they are the scourge of mankind. Their ideal budget cuts would decimate social security, medicare, etc.

They see, and state explicitly, that these programs are huge steps down the road to unbridled socialism and that is to be feared above all else. And that is what the GOP sells:fear. Fear of socialism, fear of blacks, fear of immigrants, ....
it's fear all the way down.

That also partially explains Dump. He sells fear constantly - no wonder the rank-and-file Republican approves of him. He confirms their deep fears and tells them they are right to be afraid.

*dismounts soapbox*

Exactly. Fear is a major component of the conservative mind.

Okay, anyone who didn't see this one coming, please raise your hand.

Narcissist wants to redefine an entire political party under his own surname for his next election run....

*raises hand*

It seems to me that this could make it harder for Trump to siphon of money - which is the entire point of his Campaign.
And, as has been mentioned, this means that the RNC is already committed itself to nominate Trump in 2020.

No it is far more than trump. From my link.

"Pence said "in the days ahead, President Trump will also sign a new space policy directive that will lay out our plans and our timeline to create the new sixth branch of the armed forces, the US Space Force."
"We're working as we speak with leaders in both parties in Congress to stand up the United States Space Force before the end of 2020," Pence said. The vice president said the military will use the foundation provided by the Air Force, which has been "a magnificent steward of our military space capabilities" and build on that with "space professionals from every branch.""

With any luck, Trump will still lose, and the Trump campaign will siphon off resources that would otherwise have gone to elect Republican congress-critters.

Republicans have painted themselves into a corner, they've gone "all in" with Trump. At this point, they have no choice but to cross their fingers and hope for the best in 2020, or follow him over the cliff.

After the cliff dive, Republicans will rename themselves the Whig Party to save face.

:p

Very clever! Or will they form the American Orange Order?

"Feel the market, don’t just go by meaningless numbers." for once he speaks the truth the figures really are to him meaningless.

I may have misstated. Seems as if they are only hinting at folding.

Read yesterday that there was a big fear of images of Trump playing golf T Mar A Lago while being protected by unpaid Secret Service Agents.

Also, I don't for a second believe that Trump put the thought into this that JoeMorgue has. I can see the reason for a Space Command...but given past history I'm fairly sure Trump just thought "That sounds cool, I'll be the one who started the Space Force! Pew pew!"

So did the Air Force, which is why the Air Force Space Command was founded in 1982.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Force_Space_Command

During the Cold War, space operations focused on missile warning and associated command and control for the National Command Authority (NCA). Missile warning operations from the former Aerospace Defense Command (ADC) that had been assumed by Tactical Air Command (TAC) in the late 1970s, and space and spacelift/space launch operations that had been resident in the Air Force Systems Command (AFSC), were combined to form a new Air Force major command (MAJCOM) in 1982 known as Space Command. Following the creation of United States Space Command (USSPACECOM) as a Unified Combatant Command, in 1985, Space Command was renamed Air Force Space Command (AFSPC) and assigned to USSPACECOM as its USAF component command.

Greater reactions to and effects on decision making by fear is likely the most intrinsic defining feature, no less.

That Trump would prefer it is one thing. That Republican leaders would go along with it is another, especially after the drubbing that they just got at the polls. Gives all the more credibility to the notion that a number of key Republican leaders are being blackmailed or are very cognizant of the fact that they've compromised themselves badly, incidentally.
