Saudi Arabia issued an unusually strong rebuke of the U.S. Senate on Monday, rejecting a bipartisan resolution that put the blame for the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi squarely on the Saudi crown prince and describing it as interference in the kingdom’s affairs

“The kingdom categorically rejects any interference in its internal affairs, any and all accusations, in any manner, that disrespect its leadership ... and any attempts to undermine its sovereignty or diminish its stature,”

He was an American resident.

And it does matter that he was a resident. My dad was a US resident. If Canada killed him, the first people I would go to would be my Arizona senators.

Personally, I think to hell with their puppet states, we should "Shock and Awe" Saudi Arabia. With fracking and shale, we don't need their oil. And like in Kuwait, we didn't destroy the wells anyhow. The world oil market won't suffer, only the Saud politics would.

But the world does. If you cut off Saudi oil production, you crater the global economy, and the US doesn't get out of that unscathed. And Africa, which is least able to afford increased energy prices, is well and truly ****** in that scenario, as in likely massive continent-wide famines and war. I wish that weren't the case, but it is.

The Saudi government assassinated a Saudi national inside a Saudi embassy.

"Saudi internal affair" seems like the most rational description of the problem.

Turkey has no standing to complain, since that's basically the whole point of having embassies in the first place.

And the US standing is spurious at best. If this were a case of the Saudis doing wetwork on American soil, that would be different.

Yes. On the other hand, unless the Saudis learn to eat sand, they need to sell oil. They are certainly not immune to pressure.

Good try, well, actually not. US should have sent CIA assassins over to fix the murderer in charge - efficiently and free of any sign the US did it.
