can you imagine the heat given off of the "Earth Coil"?
Maybe that's the REAL reason the equator is so hot. We need an intrepit investigator to look in to this. Someone who'll give the project credablilty. Where's Kilik when you need him?![]()
Mmm, the heat, yes. And imagine the self-induction voltage peak when we eventually decide to turn it off![]()

Well I suppose one like the ones used for rectifier in the power supply for the Earth Coil [tm] will suffice. It only needs to work once.Gonna need one HELLOVA dio-dee for that, eh?

Mmmm, could be interesting to calculate the specs of such a coil. I suspect there would not be enough copper on the planet to build it.

Is it a good idea for me to consider making an artificial magnetic field?
What does anyone think might happen if a group of people created an artificial magnetic field to replace the old one if it ran out in a few hundred years? What would the effects be if that happened?
What would happen would be that they would run into billion $ budget problems, environmentalist problems (for interfering with nature and increasing pollution with the terawatt power requirements), political problems (with drawing wires over various countries), real environmental problems (with producing enough wire and power), and technologocal problems (no current technology would suffice for this project), all for a dubious outcome. What does anyone think might happen if a group of people created an artificial magnetic field to replace the old one if it ran out in a few hundred years? But look at the energy we'd get from magnetic braking if we stopped the whole thing rotating! Completely clean power! How could the ecologists object?
Of course there might be a minor argument over which side should face the Sun afterwards and possibly angular momentum might give a couple of teeny vibration problems during the braking, but- hey! They laughed at Edison...
