Cont: The Trump Presidency 11: Insert something funny

Ayers said he wants to move back to Georgia because he has small children and only wanted to serve temporarily. Trump, per his usual, is simply bloviating because Ayers turned him down. No one turns down The Donald. The Donald turns them down!

Did Ayers actually publicly say he turned COS offer down?

This is why the tape of Cohen and Trump talking about the payment to Stormy just made my jaw drop.

Trump truly is an example of someone who is actually awful at being awful.

Trump lies to people's faces when they know what the truth is. He even does it when he knows they know the truth. It's bizarre. It's like he's trying to convince people that the earth is not round and the Sun doesn't rise in the East.

He's trying to convince himself. He is figuratively closing his eyes, crossing his fingers, and chanting "Make it so! Make it so! Make it so!" in a desperate attempt to change reality by his own willpower. It must be startling for the uninitiated up close.

No, but he probably wouldn't. But despite "numerous senior administration officials saying Ayers was on the verge of securing the post" we can't expect Trump to be honest about this. He's not honest about anything.

In all fairness Stacy. That's how it works on jobs like that in every administration. Turning down a request from any POTUS to serve is considered bad form. It's also SOP for any administration to never actually officially make a Presidential offer before it's understood that the person would accept so as not to have something like that public.

This is not to dismiss your point about Trump's insecurity though.

It would seem Trump had been "courting" Ayers for some months now, perhaps half a year, while sidelining Kelly. No doubt promises of great things if/when he came on board...all the usual Trumpian BS to get what/who he wants. So when it came to the crunch and Kelly has resigned/been fired, Trump naturally expected that Ayers had been buttered up enough and was "on board" (felt the embrace? Is that the term?) to walk into the position. But Ayers wasn't buying, probably because he is halfway smart (well, he works for Pence). He has seen close-up what happens to others in Trump's orbit, can read the goat-entrails clear enough to see a spectacular flaming crash for the Trump team, and so can see the writing on the wall for his career if he joined them now. So he has done the only thing he could - said "No" with out saying "**** No!!".

It has been a classic and spectacular misunderstanding on Trump's part, but almost entirely predictable. Thing is, now Pence has had a really big fillip by having his own team remain loyal in the face of his predatory boss's poaching raid.

That's just it. The future for Trump and his people is not bright. Why would Ayers quit his boss for what is certainly a temporary gig with Trump. One which could lead to prison. Stay with Pence and not get caught up in the insanity which is Trump. He could still find himself Chief of Staff if Trump resigns or is impeached.

I love the Ayers public relations fiasco. All Donnie thought he had to do was get Pence to agree to hand him over, like chattel. Sorta like Eddie Whitsen back in high school agreeing that I could make out with his girlfriend. It never occurred to Eddie that Elena might have something to say about it.

And Ayers' colossal ego and Trump's just couldn't get together. Trump figured he already owned him and Ayers figured he'd be able to negotiate concessions. They're now all trying to spin a failed and very elementary negotiation into a good thing because Ayers' brilliance (in his own mind) will be put to use for the greater good. The positioning of the #MAGA slug is just their way of saying, "oops, we'll go back to the bunker now to put some more sand bags up".

Ayers doing it by Tweet was particularly delicious. Donnie fires people by Tweet and thinks nothing of it. Turning him down by Tweet is a thing of beauty.

Frankly, I'm not impressed by Ayers. I don't see anything all that impressive in the coincidental campaigns he was involved in.

Reportedly, Trump never asked Kelly to be his Chief of staff, but simply announced the appointment.
At that point Kelly supposedly "saw it as his duty" to do it.
It didn't hurt that his and Trump's immigration policies align 100%.

He didn't even fire Kelly either. He has been sidelining him for some time, then just announced in a tweet that Kelly doesn't work there any more. Kelly probably welcomed that as much as his method of hiring. And so much for the "ballsy" TV Apprentice exec pointing the firing finger and pulling the trigger face-to-face. Weak AF.

Trump was handed the easiest possible situation, and managed to harm nonwhite people, and that's about it as far as his agenda was going in.

His harm was not limited by skin color. No, the brunt of his harm, be it financial, environmental or other, fell on those on the lower rungs of society.

The football league, the airline, the casinos, they all failed and failed dramatically. In other words, they no longer exist. Yet, he said, Trump didn't seem to take the lessons that could have been learned from each failure and apply it to the next venture.

I would argue he did. Consider the casinos. Yeah, they failed but Dump himself walked away with $$$millions by trashing other people's money and taking a huge fee while doing so. So before he got into politics all he was doing was licensing his name for megabucks and maybe taking the management contract, again for a nice, healthy slice while not putting any of his capital at risk.

And he had been courted by Trump for months, even taking him on Air Force One without Pence's knowledge.

https://www.smh.com.au/world/north-...-chaos-with-kelly-s-exit-20181209-p50l62.html

The headline of that article is:
Trump risks return of White House chaos with Kelly's exit

Return? Huh? He brought minimal order but accomplished little else though I would not entirely fault Kelly for that although I have lost a lot of respect for the man for taking the job in the first place.

Remember: Trump only does anything for his own benefit alone, preferably money. He has never given, and could not give now, a single flying stuff about US employees or US industries or businesses of any type. Ditto for the law, and the office, position and responsibilities of being US President. The only question he has is Can he make a dime off them.

This raises an interesting question: How much is Pence involved with Dump and his administration. At least publicly he has been 100% behind Dump. I doubt he's involved in all the financial fraud at all but on immigration, environment, policy I just don't know - or even have a good guess.

"Sure, boss! I'm right behind yer! No problem! I gotcha back! ... yep, still with yer all the way! ... Still here! You go on! ..."
