Who is going to set the over/under on when Trump first refers to Mary Barra's looks?

He seems completely unable to talk about women without referencing their looks, positive or negative. And because she is not on his "team" I expect the comment to be critical.
Has he ever said anything bad about Angela? Because I think she's boss.

If he is getting blackmailed, do you really think he'd be able to keep it a secret? With all the leaks (from both the Trump administration and Stubby McBonespurs himself) you figure we'd probably know if he was being blackmailed. Trump tweeting "I made such a good deal with the Saudis... we buy their oil and they don't release pictures of me having sex with the camel".

Depends on your definition of Blackmail. I have no doubt some of Trump's freoign policy decisions are being driven partially by his having finiancail dealings with Russians and Saudis with close ties to their governments. I don't think that amounts to blackmail, though.

Interesting conspiracy theory, however, the Turks have actually identified them based on their passport records.

So we are really doing this, or can we just agree that calling the actual murderers scapegoats was really silly?

Yeah, yeah we have identities of the murderers from a somewhat independent source (the Turks). What we don't have are the independently verified identities of the scapegoats. The remains all look pretty much the same after the beheadings.

I don't disagree with most of your post. But I'm still convinced that Trump is being blackmailed. That he sold out and the Saudis and Russia are extorting him.

I think he sold out and they're still laughing at how low the price was.

The White House is preventing the CIA director, Gina Haspel, or any other intelligence official from briefing the Senate on the murder of Saudi dissident and Washington Post columnist, Jamal Khashoggi.

The secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, and the defence secretary, James Mattis, are due to give a briefing on US relations with Saudi Arabia to the entire Senate behind closed doors on Wednesday, ahead of a vote that could cut off US support for Riyadh’s military campaign in Yemen.

On a national security issue of such importance, it would be customary for a senior intelligence official to take part. On this occasion, the absence of the intelligence community is all the more glaring, as Haspel travelled to Istanbul to hear audio tapes of Khashoggi’s murder provided by Turkish intelligence, and then briefed Donald Trump.

Officials made it clear that the decision for Haspel not to appear in front of the committee came from the White House.

Linky.

What values are most important to you and which do you think Trump represents for you best. If it is not too much, which of your values do you feel he comes up short of?

Trump Tweets

Brenda Snipes, in charge of voting in Broward County, Florida, was just spotted wearing a beautiful dress with 300 I VOTED signs on it. Just kidding, she is a fine, very honorable and highly respected voting tactician!

But that's the thing... we know (or, we have strong evidence) that Trump has been laundering money... Trump Jr's "We get money from Russia", the selling of properties to oligarchs, etc. Granted, it hasn't gone through the courts yet, but the bulk of the evidence is certainly pointing that way. The information got leaked.

We haven't yet seen similar leaks about blackmail.

Apart from the Steele Dossier, you mean? And MbS claiming to have Trump Jr. "in [his] pocket"?

Yea extortion is more likely, if they call his loans due it could be really bad for him.

What the **** would she know. The levels of hubris involved. The egalitarian view of knowledge where everyone’s opinion on any subject no matter how erudite and far removed from their fields of expertise is a terrible sickness.

Jacob Bronowski tells an annecdote about an encounter with a casually opinionated customs official. Its a fairly mundane story but the observation he makes about American culture struck a chord with me.

We do need to respect learning and expertise. No one person can know everything so societies need specialist experts to steer decisions and do things. When a bum like Trump comes out claiming the superiority of his gut feelings over the brains of others, you are in Trouble. Sanders is just a shameless bull ******* for hire.

I highly value intuition but it is a reflexive knowing that is only as good as the well of knowledge and experience it draws upon. And Trump is drawing on a wet patch as much as a puddle.

Yes, I think the world would be a better place if "intuition" was understood to mean "experience".

Sanders is literally true in the sense that an output of a model is not a fact in the same category as the war of 1812 started in 1812. But I don't have a pithy explanation of why models are very important.

The opening to Morning Joe today was a thing of twisted, demented beauty.

First snippet: Bolton refuses to watch Khashoggi video offering the excuse that he doesn't speak Arabic. A reporter reminds him that he has translators, and then he offers up more evasive gibberish.

Second snippet: Brennan, NSA under Obama, addressing an audience speaking Arabic.
