"Oil prices getting lower. Great! Like a big Tax Cut for America and the World. Enjoy! $54, was just $82. Thank you to Saudi Arabia, but let’s go lower!"

His 'reward'?

And every time he tries to brag about oil prices, it should be remembered that Trump drove up oil prices with his Iran-related moronics.

Well, the surprising bit is we have a documented case of him telling the truth. When asked who should receive the honor, he said, “I can’t imagine anybody other than Trump.”

.......
The sad thing is how easy it would be to punk President Trump. It would be so much fun to send a film crew in with a Time editor and get the president’s reaction when told that not only is he the 2018 person of the year, but that the magazine is retiring the honor because no one will ever be as great as Donald Trump.

trump should almost always be held as an example of what not to do, rather than a rationalisation for doing something you really know you shouldn't be doing.

trump will eventually be gone. Some time within the next few years. It will take a lot longer for the US to rid itself of the poison that his influence has caused to sink so deeply into the nation's consciousness. In my view, resisting the temptation to behave as contemptibly as trump does, or behave contemptibly in response to trump, is important.

Thanks. This was a nice contrast to the tu quoque, ad hominem and red herrings from some other posters. I'm not coming back to this sub-forum for a while; there doesn't seem much point to it.

Yesterday showed that Donald Trump is the most dangerous man every to hold the presidency;a authoritarian narcissist who has no morals and ethics except for his personal desires and benefits; (the Kashoggi announcement) and who really wants to te be dictator (the Comey/Hilary revelations.
If the Dems had not won the house, I thin we would be looking at the end of American Democracy. or, if it survived, would by by an "appeal to arms".

The checks seem to be working. No investigations or prosecutions have taken place. The Framers envisioned this and their checks on power seem to be holding. No need to go all Les Miserables and man the barricades just yet.

Rebuking Trump’s criticism of ‘Obama judge,’ Chief Justice Roberts defends judiciary as ‘independent’

Chief Justice John Roberts on Wednesday issued an extraordinary statement in response to President Trump’s criticism of federal judges, one day after the president blamed an “Obama judge” for ruling against his administration’s ban on asylum for those who cross the border illegally.

“We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges,” Roberts said in a statement released the day before Thanksgiving. “What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them.”

“That independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for,” the statement concluded.

The Dems winning the house was ALL-important. I can't tell you the emotions I felt when the results on election night were becoming clear. The fear I wasn't allowing myself to feel before the results were clear had to be felt somewhat in order to feel the relief of having won the House.

The other thing it said is, in contrast to learning all the horrible realities about Trump supporters, we learned that there are even more (roughly) Americans who still understand what American democracy means (independent judiciary, free press, moral leadership from the president, etc.). Winning the House was no less heartening for its absolute necessity.

y.

That said, someone remind me to never look at FiveThirtyEight on an election night. When early returns came in the odds showing of a Democratic victory in the house dropped from 6 out of 7 to 1 in 2 and my heart sank like you wouldn’t it hadn’t since the 2016 election.

FFS. What I would give if Trump could shut his mouth and take it like a president if a ruling goes against him.

But he just doesn’t have it in him. The mental illness theory gains more weight every single day.

OK: don't look at 538 on an election night. You're welcome.

/snark

Seriously, I know what you mean. It's a credit to 538's professionalism that they have survived as much as they have, given the incredible amount of negative reinforcement from the 2016 election night.

I think it's a natural PR strategy, coinciding with narcissism.

What negative reinforcement? They gave Trump a 30% chance of winning, and several times pointed out that he was less than the margin of error from victory - which is exactly what happened. They were less wrong than anyone else.

Here's some more good news then:

Their big problem for 2020 is that it isn't that the Trump voters didn't show up for '18. They showed up. It just turns out that everyone else hates the GOP now. The encapsulation of this was the Tester/Rosendale race where Trump's appearances activated more voters to for Tester than for Rosendale.

"Sorry Chief Justice John Roberts, but you do indeed have “Obama judges,” and they have a much different point of view than the people who are charged with the safety of our country. It would be great if the 9th Circuit was indeed an “independent judiciary,” but if it is why......"

".....are so many opposing view (on Border and Safety) cases filed there, and why are a vast number of those cases overturned. Please study the numbers, they are shocking. We need protection and security - these rulings are making our country unsafe! Very dangerous and unwise!"
