I found this beauty - it’s trump versus world leaders, the reality versus how he imagines it.

That’s pretty funny.

That petulant arms-crossed stare into the distance, when confronted with an unpleasant reality in person, is one step removed from curling up into a fetal position and sucking his thumb. It’s a look I never could have imagined I’d see from the President of the United States. God, how embarrassing for my country.

I don't have any travel planned. But if I imagine myself overseas, and I imagine a foreigner giving me an earful over Trump, the only thing I can think to say -- we're victims too!

I was in France the summer of 2001 and people hated Bush. It was quaint.

I haven't been abroad during this presidency, but friends who have tell me it's actually great. It's an instant icebreaker: "Ohmigosh I know, right? He's insane!" followed by comparing news coverage. It'd probably get really old on an extended trip, but a vacation full of short conversations goes much smoother if there's always something to talk about.

I was in the Navy during the Bushiest of the Bush years and didn't get nearly as much crap over it from all you dang Furinurs as one might expect. And what little I got was almost always confusion more than any type of directed anger.

Most people in most countries understand how a population can wind up with a bad leader without every single person or even a majority being of citizens being bad.

The opposition to the anti-fascists? The anti-anti-fascists? Aka....fascists?

Surely, one can think antifa is a bad thing without being a fascist. One can even oppose antifa without being a fascist.

In fact, I oppose antifa in almost everything they've done (of which I am aware). I wish they'd go away. I am not a fascist.

Of course, I am not getting angrier and angrier at them, thinking of joining the battle, either. But even those who are itching to fight antifa are not necessarily fascists. They think that antifa is recklessly violent, particularly against conservative or even farther right groups.

That's like saying the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria has to be a democracy run by the people because it's right there in the name.

I support Antifa (mostly) but they don't get to just self-define via what they call themselves anymore than anybody else.

From CNN:

I wish CNN wouldn't do this. If this is supposed to be a news article, under old-school (my age ;)) rules, it shouldn't be making this assertion. It veers into "analysis." And really, it's like dozens of articles I've already seen. Trump has had the worst week of his presidency - how many times have I read this? And though it may be freshly true each week, taken together such analyses are giving a distorted view of Trump's presidency.

When Trump first took office I gobbled this stuff up. He was going to get his comeuppance any day now, it seemed. It got to the point where I quit checking CNN, because I felt I was getting an unrealistic expectation that the country as a whole was sick of Trump, and it didn't match the reality I saw around me.

Besides which, "heading into uncharted territory" is just stale writing. For the first time his party does not control both houses of Congress. I can do the math.

After the shock of his election I wasn't about to believe anything I read ahead of the midterms. I avoided the news all last Tuesday. It came out the way I hoped, mostly.

I picture the CNN newsroom like the cast of Murphy Brown, spending all their time in that one room and never connecting much with anyone outside it, just group thinking their way along.

you mean all the Europeans who begged Bush not to invade Iraq, because they knew that there were no WMDs?

Yes, how quaint to ignore the combined Intelligence resources of our allies and instead spend trillions on an avoidable conflict.

Reread the date I put in the post. Because it was even before that stuff you mentioned is what made it quant.

His touting non existent GOP victories in the mid terms reminds me of Hitler ordering non existenet military units around in his last days.
But I would not get to happy about this, we have a borderline psychotic man with his finger on the nuclear trigger. if that is not scary what is.

Maybe this is not the time to bring up this novel I just read:

"The 2020 Commission Report on the North Korean Nuclear Attacks Against the United States: A Speculative Novel"

The scenario is somewhat based on the KAL 007 incident, but instead of angry words, the US launched a (conventional) cruise missile attack on the Soviet airbase where the plane that shot down the airliner came from  :eye-poppi :jaw-dropp , except in this case, replace the US with South Korea, and the USSR with North Korea. Then at the worst possible moment of this crisis, our "Dear President" sends out a tweet directed at the N.K leader ...

The only bit of "good news" about what came next, was that the primary death toll was "only" in the seven figures (including someone close to Trump) ...

What is wrong with recording fascist protests and counter protesting them?

Having been overseas that's generally not how it goes. People I talked about this sort of thing weren't angry at my wife and I, more confused and wondering how we felt about it. Which just ends up being a bonding session over how crazy the whole thing is.

I get his point, and generally agree. While I agree with the general idea of confronting fascist demonstrations, some self proclaimed members of antifa have an overly broad definition of what counts as fascism and a much too aggressive idea of what confronting them entails. Some of the self-proclaimed antifa members around here have jumped on the anti-gentrification bandwagon and have gone around vandalizing properties under the antifa banner. Properties in neighborhoods they don't live in, and neighborhoods that are welcoming the improvements that these antifa people vandalized.

Saying you don't like Antifa, thus you are a fascist, is kinda like saying you don't like PETA, thus you enjoy torturing animals.

I too have been overseas -- extensively. I've experienced it all.
