I have to believe that Mueller and Rosenstein have already done something behind the scenes that would prevent the complete results of the Russia investigation from the possibility of completely disappearing and never being seen by a Democrat in Congress or the public. Surely they knew that Sessions could be gone as of today, which would then mean that Rosenstein would not be safeguarding the investigation.

His replacement has long spoken out against Mueller's investigation, has said that if he were in charge he'd severely hamper it, and was allegedly described by Kelly as the White House's "eyes and ears" in the DoJ. I'd say it's probably safe to say that he's more likely to do what Trump wants re the Russia probe, not less.

Probably the only reason why Kelly still has a job. He serves the purpose of doing all the dirty work that Trump lacks the spine to do himself.

I would bet Mueller has, but when you said the “word” was that he has, I was very interested because someone knowing that Mueller actually has done that is much more secure than merely assuming he has based in what we know about how he works.
