Trump claims he can defy Constitution and end birthright citizenship

President Donald Trump offered a dramatic, if legally dubious, promise in a new interview to unilaterally end birthright citizenship, ratcheting up his hardline immigration rhetoric with a week to go before critical midterm elections.
Trump's vow to end the right to citizenship for the children of non-citizens and unauthorized immigrants born on US soil came in an interview with Axios released Tuesday. Such a step would be regarded as an affront to the US Constitution, which was amended 150 years ago to include the words: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States."

"It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don't," he said, adding that he has run it by his counsel. "You can definitely do it with an act of Congress. But now they're saying I can do it just with an executive order," Trump said.


Of course, like the tax cut before the election, it's something that's "in process", with no details, so take it with a few cubic meters of salt. A grain won't be enough.
 
This isn't going to end well.

Realistically, I could see the stocks dropping if the D's take control. Reversing the recent tax cut, which was a massive giveaway to big corporations and the rich, could have a negative impact on the markets. From a PR perspective, it doesn't really matter that it was wholly irresponsible to stimulate an already growing economy with unnecessary debt, it'll be the big bad Democrats taking the blame for making sound policy.

Dad is blowing the kid's college fund on trips to Disney World and calling Mom the bad guy for trying to stop him. It's the classic Republican playbook, fiscal responsibility only matters when the D's are in power.

It's lower today than it was last December.

It's also up since the Depression. That statement doesn't mean anything.

retroactively gets one too. With Obama no longer a citizen, all his doings are erased. No more Obamacare. Mission accomplished!

If it were my[1] plane, I'd prefer that wet umbrellas were left outside either to be sheathed in a bag or left behind and replaced with a dry umbrella on the other end of the flight, if needed.

But you and I don't know how these minor operations go, so no point speculating. Possible he was being a dick, possible he was following perhaps new protocols. Who knows?

I also considered this at first, but if you watched the longer video, you'll see one poor pleb jog up the stairs about a minute later, fold up the umbrella and take it inside the plane (dismissing my idea that perhaps it was meant to be left outside).

Pretty sure trump just didn't want his hair to get wet or blown around while trying to close the umbrella.

At this point I'd usually be saying 'really? we're talking about umbrellas?'.
On on an internet forum that's fine, but i'd hope the media wouldn't focus much on this sort of thing.

trump's a bell-end. we all know that, he knows it, and no small number of his supporters know it. Do we really want to be discussing the vast girth of his bellendery?

One thing that harmed for Neil Kinnock's chances (amongst idiots, admittedly) was a photo of him walking along the beach and losing his footing due to a wave.

Some people claim that Ed Miliband lost votes because of the way that he ate a bacon sandwich. Personally, I think it his fluffing a speech without notes was a bigger problem, but that is an aside.

Simple images matter to voters who want a leader to look good.

I could have got it if Trump had just behaved as an entitled brat and dropped the umbrella as soon as he didn't need it. However he actually looked flummoxed by the mechanism for a while before deciding to drop it. That is not normal.
 

They should move the caravan folks to Puerto Rico, they're down in population by the same amount. Win-win!

There have been several similar cases in Canadian politics:

- Quebec politician Gilles Duceppe had himself photographed wearing a hairnet during a visit to a cheese factory.
