But you don't understand. Obama said, "If you like your insurance, you can keep it." All politicians lie. Turmp's not doing anything no one else has done.

Trumpers don't seem to realize that trying to normalize Trump just makes them look abnormal.

David Koch (yes, those Kochs) once revealed his secret for becoming rich:
David Koch joked about his good fortune in a 2003 speech to alumni at Deerfield, where, after pledging twenty-five million dollars, he was made the school’s sole “lifetime trustee.” He said, “You might ask: How does David Koch happen to have the wealth to be so generous? Well, let me tell you a story. It all started when I was a little boy. One day, my father gave me an apple. I soon sold it for five dollars and bought two apples and sold them for ten. Then I bought four apples and sold them for twenty. Well, this went on day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, until my father died and left me three hundred million dollars!”

Trump tweets

"Events in Pittsburgh are far more devastating than originally thought. Spoke with Mayor and Governor to inform them that the Federal Government has been, and will be, with them all the way. I will speak to the media shortly and make further statement at Future Farmers of America."

The point is that lying by politicians is normal and acceptable in America, assuming the one lying is your guy or gal.

THIS is what we mean by "normalizing the lying". Yes, all politicians will lie...but they tend to lie about things that benefit them. Trump, on the other hand, lies about everything whether it be large, small, relevant, or irrelevant. And it's the horrendously huge amount of lies he tells that is so revealing. He lies just o lie. He really can't help himself. It's just part of who he is.

In a scene from Murphy Brown, she ask her version of Alexa/Echo how many times has Trump lied. Alexa gives her an answer then immediately has to keep updating the number. The amount of lying Trump does is WAY past the number we expect from politicians and into the realm of absurdity.

Yes. Other politicians lying is no excuse for your preferred politician to lie. Call him out, or you you are just showing acceptance. You'll never get the other guy's politician to stop.

And it certainly shouldn't be a competition to see whose can tell the biggest lies, or lie most often.

Nice:

Have you come across Despair.com demotivators?

https://despair.com/collections/demotivators/products/never-give-up

They were quite popular at work about a decade ago.

Loved the demotivators! I have their "motivation" poster prominently displayed in my office:
https://despair.com/collections/posters/products/motivation?variant=2457303555

I keep waiting for the time when a high school student, with their parents, who visit me and want to know whether the student should apply to my university, recognize this "motivational" poster for what it is. Hasn't happened yet. I can't imagine what Admissions would say if they knew it was there. 'Course, they probably wouldn't get it even if they saw it.

Pittsburgh shooting leaves 8 confirmed dead at synagogue, shooter screamed 'All Jews must die'

Looks like a very anti-immigrant anti-semite was the culprit. AR-15 style assault weapon. At least 12 more wounded. So... very likely to be a MAGA Trumpkin.

And of course Trump's reaction is to push much of the blame for why it was so bad on the victims... for not being armed.

As a person who was raised going to church weekly, I never saw anyone go to church packing, and I very much think that that's the way it should be.

ETA: Looks like the death count is up to 10. Multiple police officers wounded, too.

On the positive side, at least Trump and Pence are calling it an act of anti-semitism and condemning it, this time. Whether that's to divert from the anti-immigrant views of the guy, which are clearly associated with Trump, and onto the anti-semitic views, which the right likes to claim are mostly on the left, or if it's actually serious is anyone's guess.

Soon Trump supporters are going to assert that George Soros engineered this synagogue shooting.

Actually, when one wants to know whether or not to take you seriously, this statement is all one needs to know about you.
