It's from one of the Tiffany Aching books, it's been my signature for years. The absurdly optimistic sentiment it's satirising, which Trump is echoing, has been preached to young people for decades with mostly unfortunate results.
 
Hey, look! It's Georgia voter suppression news, yet again!

Short summation of the news -

"The Democratic Party of Georgia learned from voters calling our voter protection hotline that 4,700 voters in DeKalb County who requested mail-in ballot applications did not receive ballots from the county board of elections. We have USPS scans that show 4,700 ballot applications were delivered, but the county board has only been able to find 48 of them.”

To touch on a couple more related matters...

in Florida, Rick Scott signed a GOP law that implemented thousands of dollars in fines for each voter registration card that isn’t turned in within 48 hours. Third-party voter registration groups such as the League of Women Voters, unions and the NAACP had to significantly curb their registration activity because it was near impossible to guarantee a two day turnover when you register thousands of new voters at a time. That same law also banned Sunday voting, permitted vote caging, and wouldn’t allow address updates at the polls.

The GOP has no bones about passing ridiculous voter suppression laws when they are in charge—Democrats need to pass our own laws to make sure our voting rights are protected when we get in charge.

If you can fine a teacher 1000 dollars for turning in her students’ registration late, then Democrats can damn sure justify fining election officials for losing absentee ballots.

If you can pass law after law combating the non-existent threat of voting fraud, then Democrats can pass laws to penalize those who throw off legitimate voters on voting rolls using corrupt systems like Kansas GOP candidate Kris Kobach’s Crosscheck. (A statistical analysis from Harvard and Microsoft found that it was wrong 99 percent of the time, yet that is the model Georgia and GOP states use because it keeps blacks and Hispanics off the rolls.)

...Man, I knew Crosscheck was bad, but 99% failure rate and the GOP are still pushing it? Also, I think I might have missed that Florida voter suppression law being passed.

It's more what Terry Pratchett had skewered. As has been said before, it is boilerplate "inspirational quote", which has a long history, particularly in the US

It seems inevitable that if you label the opposition as enemies of the people, some small fraction of “the people” will see it as a call to arms.

A “loyal opposition” can be reasoned, and compromised, with. An “enemy” needs to be defeated. By any means necessary.

He’s already implied Hillary should be shot to avoid a liberal Supreme Court, that prisoners of war be summarily executed, that police rough up subjects in custody, and that battery on a reporter is admirable. That this has not led to bipartisan censure in both the House and Senate is repugnant.

Indeed - it seems that it's not even considered something regrettable by the GOP in the Senate and House.

Ironic when many of the supporters also hysterically complain about "leftist violence". Which is condemned by the Democratic party.
 
Migrant caravan: Mexico offers temporary work permits

Mexico has offered temporary work permits to migrants who register for asylum, as a big caravan of Central American migrants makes its way through the country toward the US.

The plan also envisages temporary ID cards, medical care and schooling.

I think the Tiffany Aching books are some of his best writing and I am nowhere near their target audience.

As long as they are right there on the border, why doesn't Trump just hire them to build the wall? We can pay them with soybeans, because with the trade war with China it sounds like we are going to have some extra. :rolleyes:

But you don't understand. Obama said, "If you like your insurance, you can keep it." All politicians lie. Turmp's not doing anything no one else has done.
