Ed George Soros and others targetted by Terrorist

Observations from a former Navy veteran bomb disposal officer:

1. Proper pipe bombs don't have wires connected to both ends. That's dumb.

2. You can find timers / remote control receivers WAY smaller than whatever that white box is. A proper timer would best be stored inside the pipe, making it fully encapsulated. That thing is just silly looking.

3. Bottom Line: Whoever made that wanted it to be painfully obvious to anyone and everyone that it's a "bomb."

This is nearly the same as a bundle of road flares wrapped together with an old-timey alarm clock ticking away.

4. 'Hoax Devices' are FAR more common than real ones. In which case, we should ask ourselves what the motives of the bomber are and who benefits?

Most threats are fake. The primary reason for anonymous threats appears to be self satisfaction against something they don't like.

I have a sick feeling if some of the bombs had went off, some people here would be making excuses for the bombers.....

If anything this is illustrative of how utterly polarized and on-edge much of America is at the moment.

A large portion of the American population believe and support a President that continually lies about everything all the time and constantly spreads completely completely made up nonsense conspiracy theories (while downplaying and ridiculing actually credible allegations). Is it unexpected that this group of people would assume this is somehow yet another "false-flag" done by the liberal establishment? They are for the most part crackpot tin-foil hat wearing lunatics.

Is it unexpected that a large portion of people who don't believe in Trump's lies and constant ******** are angry and upset at people who know better but refuse to anything significant to oppose him? You don't have to be a "liberal democrat" to be fearful of how the Republican party under Trump has effectively embraced a complete disregard for facts, science and reason.

Egging these people on in this political climate would be really easy... as these bombs show for all to see.

So he contradicted himself.

By empathizing with the sentiment behind these actions, he's indirectly agreeing with the actions in some way, shape, or form.

But was obligated to say out loud (with you sitting there as a witness), "mailing bombs is never the right thing to do". It's an obligatory nod for the sake of self preservation.

Otherwise known as: CYA - Cover Your Ass.

Very much so. It's the politically correct thing to think, and everything he does and thinks is correct.

I see the Trumpers are pretty much following the 9/11 Truthers playbook: find a "expert" who is contracticted by just about every other expert and proclaim him as the only source of truth; all the other experts are in on it.

I think the punishment, when caught, should be to seal the guy in a back room with Robert DeNiro.

"You gonna **** with me?!"

"Noted for posterity - The Big Dog says that anything even suggested by the New York Times that is inimical to the interests of the liberal mob can be taken as true."

otherwise known as a statement against interest.

fixed that for you!

You went too far: You reveal that your non sequitur "position" is intended to imply an argument that you apparently feel is too obviously dumb to actually state clearly. How is what the NYT has said about the bombs "inimical to the interests of the liberal mob?"

That doesn't seem like a sound basis for an attempted murder conviction.
"I thought about killing you, but then I decided to just scare you with a harmless prop."

"In that case, the harmless prop is attempted murder."
Doesn't work for me. At all.

Yup, harmless prop.

A guy walks into the White House, pulls a gun on Donald Trump and points it at his head. But the gun isn't real, it's just a toy gun.

No harm, no foul. Right?

Therefore, no charges will be laid because it was just a harmless prop and nobody was hurt. Right?

^^^^ this.

This is the type of demented twisted fantastical line of reasoning that rattles around in the skulls of Trump's loyal cult worshippers.

Welcome to Trumpland, folks.

Welcome to Trumpland...

To a Mod;Maybe the thread title should be changed to indicate this thread has naturally expanded beyond the Soros bombing.

That is a big jump that saying not attempted murder implies no charges. Your scenario obviously doesn't look like attempted murder to me.

Ok, cite any other expert that you think we are overlooking.

Just point us to the so called experts.

Excited to see some more experts!!

tick tock

Seeing as theprestige apparently has Slings and Arrows (rightfully) on ignore, I'll break this down for the benefit of the readers of the thread.

Observations from a former Navy veteran bomb disposal officer:

Doubtful, see below.

1. Proper pipe bombs don't have wires connected to both ends. That's dumb.

It not being 'proper' or 'optimal' has absolutely no bearing at all on if it would be operable. This says nothing. Connecting at both ends would work just fine because how they connect inside is what counts. It being PVC pipe, well, just about anywhere on them works just fine.

(An explosives expert should know that.)

2. You can find timers / remote control receivers WAY smaller than whatever that white box is. A proper timer would best be stored inside the pipe, making it fully encapsulated. That thing is just silly looking.

That you can find those devices tells us absolutely nothing about if this would work or not. Again, not optimal in no way means no operable. This is not a valid argument.

3. Bottom Line: Whoever made that wanted it to be painfully obvious to anyone and everyone that it's a "bomb."

Or they just didn't think of other ways to assemble it. A bomb disposal expert would not call something 'not a bomb' because it 'looks too much what people think bombs look like'.

This is nearly the same as a bundle of road flares wrapped together with an old-timey alarm clock ticking away.

Absolutely not. The actual explosives inside give that away.

4. 'Hoax Devices' are FAR more common than real ones. In which case, we should ask ourselves what the motives of the bomber are and who benefits?

True but irrelevant. This is the same as saying that men are far more likely to be over six foot tall than women, therefore Jill isn't six foot two inches.

Here theprestige is where someone, someone who is very representative of the GOP right now, claiming what you said was a straw man.

One thing to make perfectly clear to anyone who doesn't know; just putting the kind of explosive described inside the PVC pipe could detonate it. Handling such an object could detonate it. This is pyrotechnic safety 101.

Intended or not, these could have exploded. They are not props and are not harmless.

It does, however, mean that it might not be a bomb.

And it might be one. It's basically a meaningless distraction to quibble over this. What makes something a bomb is not setting it off, it's the possibility that it can be set off. A bomb doesn't become a bomb by lighting the fuse.

That is a big jump that saying not attempted murder implies no charges. Your scenario obviously doesn't look like attempted murder to me.

Trumpettes are trying to say that unless it's attempted murder, it doesn't count and therefore should be hand-waved as "no harm, no foul".

All I did was follow their line of reasoning in a different scenario to show how ridiculous that thought process is.

Come on, man. Make your own claim: do you think this was a false flag op?

Sumarry. Some guy on twitter who claims he is a "former bomb disposal officer" (on the internet, nobody knows you're a dog), says the bombs are obviously fake because of the way they're put together. He might be right, but at this point, we have no evidence that he actually knows his ass from a hole in the ground.

His argument is flawed regardless of his expertise. His logic is that it doesn't meet his standards, therefore it's fake? As if he can't conceive of an amateur doing something poorly.

Who said no harm no foul?

I have a sick feeling if some of the bombs had went off, some people here would be making excuses for the bombers.....

By any means necessary.

Has anyone here excused any of the behaviour yet?

Yes.

If anything this is illustrative of how utterly polarized and on-edge much of America is at the moment.

A problem I see is how "democrat" and "liberals" are used as slander, now. Though they mean "people on the left", it's not hard to see how the distinction between the label and what the words actually mean would be lost, leading to a backlash against liberalism and democracy themselves.
