If you scrap the expenditures of Medicare and social security while maintaining the income and then reconciling their budgets, it would reduce the defict and debt it would allow for even more tax cuts.

FTFY.

If Republicans were concerned about the deficit, they would first balance the budget before they cut taxes.

"Watched the debate last night & Beto O’Rourke, who wants higher taxes and far more regulations, is not in the same league with Ted Cruz & what the great people of Texas stand for & want. Ted is strong on Crime, Border & 2nd A, loves our Military, Vets, Low Taxes. Beto is a Flake!"

“Trump could be the most honest president in modern history. When you look at the real barometer of presidential truthfulness, which is promise keeping, he is probably the most honest president in American history. He’s done exactly what he said he would do.” Marc Thiessen, WPost"

Isn't that tweet just admitting he lies a lot?

Funny he didn't quote the second sentence in Thiessen's article: "Don’t get me wrong, Trump lies all the time."

That said, the opinion piece is unabashedly complimentary of Trump's willingness to keep promises.

There is a problem with it in that he hasn't really done anything. Things have gotten done, bit by all accounts he is not a contributor. He isn't putting in the time or attention to be a positive contributor to these projects.

He is kind of like Michael Scott.

ETA: one of the reasons previous presidents have not done what they said is because access to the vast amounts of information available to the office reveal it is a bad idea. The fact that Trump's unwillingness to learn makes him more likely to fulfill a promise is bad.

Thiessen is such a tool. I get that the Post has to scrounge up some “opposite” for their opinion pages. It’s just that most of Trump’s professional apologists and bootlickers already work for the Fox White House, so they get witless twerps like him.

On second thought, there’s actually very little difference in quality between him and any other Trump lackey. He just happens to get paid by Jeff Bezos instead of Rupert Murdoch or us taxpayers.

Fixed that for Trump.

And to nobody's surprise, a new study has found that yes, Trump supporters are racist.

The study looked at voters who had previously voted for Obama, and voted for Trump in 2016. (The argument put forward is "how can these voters be racist if they voted for Obama first) What they found was:
- Those people who switched from Obama to Trump scored higher on tests for xenophobia and racial hostility
- Those people that switched were not necessarily under any significant economic stress

As for why a racist would have voted for Obama in the first place? The article touches on a few possibilities, such as the unpopularity over Iraq or the financial meltdown that started under Bush Jr. (So even people who were racist would hold their nose and vote for a racial minority.)

I'd think a racist wouldn't vote for a ****** regardless of anything else.

The study shows otherwise. It shows a majority of people who switched from Obama to Trump 1) were xenophobic or had racist leanings, and 2) did not do so for economic reasons

Since I doubt they asked if they hated black people, I wonder how reliable the "racist leanings" value is. Not that I dounbt that Trump supporters are on average pretty racist.

Senate Judiciary Committee is hearing from 4th Circuit Trump nominee Allison Rushing today. She’s only *36* years old, Federalist Society member, Gorsuch & Thomas clerk, worked for anti-LGBTQ group Alliance Defending Freedom.

Lining them up.

No Democrats are here to question her. They complained Grassley held this hearing during the recess.

Kennedy is asking her about her "biggest failure in life" and her "worst mistake as a lawyer."

Kennedy signaling he's got some concerns about Rushing's age. "You're a rockstar... but I think to be a better judge you've gotta have some life experience." He asks if she knows the people who work late in her office. She says she does.

Hatch says that attempts to block judicial nominees over their ties to anti-LGBTQ group Alliance Defending Freedom, which he calls "effective" and "mainstream," failed in the past.

"If tried again, they will fail again," he adds.

And that's it.

The Senate Judiciary Committee's questioning of Trump's 4th Circuit nominee, who is 36 years old, lasted less than 30 minutes. Only 2 senators were present.

Sasse pops in to address Kennedy's remarks about Rushing. He says "age and life experience do matter" but that "relevant appellate experience is incredibly important," citing Gorsuch's age at confirmation (39).

It's clear where Republicans think Rushing is headed.

The picture at the top of the article shows a banner that says "Villa for sale." :D Probably can get it for a good price if you don't mind blood stains.
The Saudi consulate is just an average residence on the street. It's not a huge complex with guarded access. There is just a small guard shack and a locked gate. Its unremarkable except for a Saudi flag and a brass plate near the entrance. I used to drive by it every day when I worked in the area.
If accurate, the poor man didn't have a chance. Truly brutal, and his poor fiance waiting nearby the whole time.
