The Behavior of UK Police officers.

Has a Muslim ever been successfully prosecuted for Hate Speech in Scotland?

The religious beliefs or affiliations of the accused or the victims of the incident are not formally recorded by the police as they are not relevant to the definition of the crime in the law.

But recording the race and/or religion can determine if the law is being properly enforced.

Yes, but has a Sunni Muslim who committed a hate crime on a Tuesday morning in September that wasn't a murder, assault or robbery ever been successfully prosecuted in the eastern part of southern Scotland?

The poster is one of a series of posters aimed at demonstrating that the Scottish authorities are taking all types of hate crime seriously

The fact that the one aimed at religious hatred uses language of faith is perfectly reasonable - non-religious people don't believe that other religions are blasphemous or heresy, for example.

Wait... are you saying that Baron took one poster from a larger series out of context, and tried to suggest that it was the only thing the Scottish authorities are concerned with? I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell you!

Yes.

And despite being cleared of more serious convictions following review he still remains convicted of;

1) Section 54 of the Terrorism Act 2000: setting up websites providing links to documents providing instructions on how to operate weaponry and make explosives

2) Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006: circulating terrorist publications by means of websites to encourage, induce or assist the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism)

3) Breach of the peace: showing images of suicide bombers, murders and beheadings to fellow students, threatening to be a suicide bomber and to carry out terrorism in Glasgow or elsewhere.

I'll leave it to you to work out which one constitutes a hate crime.

You haven't being paying attention......

These sorts of posters never take any notice of the responses, otherwise, for instance, they might take up the challenge of naming a street in a claimed no-go area for us to go and have a look at.............you know, rather than studiously avoiding the question.

According to another site, The National Student, "There are letters directed to bigots, racists, disablists, transphobes, homophobes and racists." Baron, if "it's obvious" to you that this means they are directly aimed at Christians, doesn't that effectively mean that you're calling Christians "bigots, racists, disablists, transphobes, homophobes and racists"? And shouldn't that qualify as hate speech?

The degree to which Baylor has ignored the various iterations of that question speaks volumes.

Indeed.

It suggests s/he knows that no such place exists, and doesn't want to have to admit that the claims about no-go areas and so on are plucked straight out of fresh air. I'm sure such people gather in some seedy little white-supremacist hole on the internet and boast to each other about how they are giving us furrin libruls a really hard time about the hell-holes in which we live, and it would deflate a few egos to find that the nonsense they spout was thoroughly destroyed by actual evidence from people who live here.

The adverts are also a dig at the various Christian churches in Scotland, some of whom are notorious for preaching hate and bigotry, against other Christians..!

Are they also targeted against mosques? Nah, we both know that answer to that.

And is it right for the police to be supporting literature that 'has a dig' (i.e. provokes, inflames, mocks) any portion of society?

Just in case anyone is curious about UK police ranks compared to US ones, "retired chief inspector" is an approximately equivalent rank to "retired police captain".
I'd argue it's closer to lieutenant in terms of responsibility, authority and operational/administrative balance. At least where the larger US forces, comparable to London, are concerned.

Apparently there is a serious problem with Christians in Scotland. I didn't know about this. According to Police Scotland they (and only they) are spreading hate and bigotry and victimising Muslims. Police Scotland (by association) now refer to Christians as 'Bigots' and threatens them with prosecution if they say anything disagreeable. Or, more accurately, if they criticise Islam.

Needless to say, this example of hate speech has itself been reported as such. Fat lot of good that will do.

Well, it is well known - as various people have pointed out
The Protestant/Catholic divide as best exampled by football and Rangers vs Celtic, is pretty well known. Religious bigotry has and is a big issue for many.

The posters in the campaign do not say what you suggest they are saying. There is no reference to any religion. The big problem in Scotland is, as I said, Protestant vs Catholic.

It goes deeper than football, Rangers and Celtic are just convenient pegs.
