New SCOTUS Judge II: The Wrath of Kavanaugh

The Mormons baptize both alive and dead people who never stepped into a Mormon church. I'm always fascinated by just how much people lie for their religion.

My dad's sister and her husband were Mormons. My dad made it absolutely clear to them that they were NOT to posthumously baptize him. He had nothing but scorn for the LDS Church. I know they did anyway.

They can understand for every action they take, there is a reaction or consequence. Not everything is an entitlement in this world. I have no problem with people deciding to use birth control or seeking abortion services. If we teach people that they must be responsible for their own actions, I think that is a great way to live your life. All of it.

Do you disagree?

I don't disagree. Except it's cutting off ones nose to spite ones face.

In the real world, teenagers don't practice responsibility and they take risks. And the younger they are, the more risks they take. . They have unprotected sex which has consequences for them and society. They spread diseases and create unwanted children. Your solution is not only expensive, it's discriminatory and unnecessarily punitive. Rich kids that are given spending money and get properly educated are far less likely to take those risks. But that's ok, one even has to pay for human companionship.
.
There are plenty of people that would love to adopt those babies for people that either do not want them, or cannot take care of them. If you feel like that is a cruel decision, perhaps those people that decided to have a child or unprotected sex should've made better life choices. Consequences has this way of teaching people not to do things that are dumb, or detrimental.

You see those have nots as incubators for the haves. It's all about teaching them a lesson about consequences. Consequences limited only to someone with limited resources. Consequences that lucky sperms never have to face.

A person who blacks out is unconscious, so how would they know what happened and whether they blacked out or not.

No, you have this completely wrong. A blackout is explicitly NOT when one loses consciousness. A blackout is when one REMAINS conscious, but does not form lasting memories of events. And it is possible to know that one has blacked out (it's happened to me once) because there are gaps in one's memory where there should not be any. Falling asleep is completely different than blacking out.

Reproductive autonomy is earned, not given. I love how people want basic health-care for free. Should the government just give people free Ferraris as well? Or twelve years of education? Or police protection? The "gimmie 'dat" mentality must stop -- except when it comes to tax cuts for the rich.
I love how people who don't understand how single-payer works let their ignorance run away with their prejudices.

Let me help you, and you won't need to thank me because the GOP will like the correction.

"I love how people want basic health-care paid for in a much more cost-effective way than currently thereby reducing the demand on scarce and expensive medical services."

Nice to see that a glorified Republican political operative credibly accused of sexual assault and who perjured himself before the Senate Judiciary Committee is on the Supreme Court. Well done.
And done so quickly and efficiently immediately before an important election and in the final two years of a lame-duck disaster of a president. Just like they did for that upstanding Merrick Garland.

Are you a time traveler? Do you know something that we don't know about Trump's first term ending before January 20, 2021? Otherwise, even leaving aside whether he might get elected again, this didn't happen in the final two years of his first term.

Also, did you mean to call Obama a disaster of a president? Not that I disagree, but...

I wish i could say my scorn for religion was limited to only one religion. But the moment someone start spouting bullcrap about their personal invisible unknowable unfalsifiable god that exists outside of space and time, that is the moment I realize it is universal scorn.

What gets me is the free water treatment. Buy a water filter, you deadbeats.

You dislike the idea of one being responsible for their actions or not? A child is a huge responsibility. If you cannot take care of one, do not have them. (or give them to someone that can) Period. I don't really care if you think its unkind. It's best for the child.

Really?

I'd say that's probably true if they are white, healthy newborns. But I'm not willing to accept any of that on faith, which is all you have offered.

The problem is that the parents aren't the only ones hurt by the behavior. It hurts kids.

ETA: This is far afield from the actual topic. I'd be interested in seeing the evidence. It does cost less to adopt a black child - it's a supply and demand thing.

Which is why the kids should go to a better home if their birth parents cannot take care of them. That's why we have protection services to check on children. Race has zero to do with it.

I don't think it's that cut-and-dried. It's true you're walking (or driving :( ) around with your eyes open, but you could say the same of sleepwalking - whatever that is. If at some point someone "comes to," they are coming to from something. It's not all of a piece with ordinary waking consciousness.

I have a suspicion Kavanaugh knows that he sometimes blacked out and behaved like a jerk.

I'd be interested in knowing what evidence you have about the availability of better homes.

Per NPR: It's cheaper to adopt a black kid than a white kid.

That's not some handwringing liberal piece; it's just a fact.

I don't like abortion but it's absolutely false to pretend that better homes are universally available for the neediest infants (and older children).

I'm not quite sure I'm following you here... Are you trying to say based on someones race that they should or should not be removed from a bad home??

Sleepwalking is weird and I don't understand it. But blackouts are, in comparison, pretty easy to understand. You are indeed awake when you are blackout drunk. You can understand things, make logical decisions, and recall previously formed memories. You just can't effectively form new memories.

The only time I got blackout drunk, I remember getting drunk, and I remember sobering up, and I never lost consciousness in between. But there are periods I don't remember, blank areas where something must have happened (because I went from one location to another) but with no recollection of them happening. From other people who were with me I know I didn't do anything out of the ordinary during those periods, so I didn't lose control, but it's all a blank.

And that 12 year old, raped by a relative? Where do you see her responsibility?

Spoken like a male that doesn't understand pregnancy.

No, I have this completely right. A blackout explicitly IS when one loses consciousness/awareness of what they are doing. They might be technically conscious "in the moment".

Not always. (Perhaps I should have said "consciously aware")

And it is possible to know that one has blacked out (it's happened to me once) because there are gaps in one's memory where there should not be any.

And it is also possible to NOT know that one has blacked out (its happened to me as well). The gaps in your memory could well be because the next day, you just assume that you might have fallen asleep. There are times in my misspent youth when I have drunk heavily, and the next day, noticed no apparent gaps in my memory of the night before until friends told me what I did.

It is entirely possible to black out, and do things that you have no memory of, and to not be aware that you are missing any memories until someone actually tells you what you did! If no-one tells you, you will never know.

This is a very, very common theme among high-functioning alcoholics. Ask anyone you know who is in AA!
