"Republican appointee" is not the same as rabid right-winger. Earl Warren was a Republican appointee. Sandra Day O'Connor and Anthony Kennedy were Reagan appointees. Kav is in a different league.

Exactly. Previous Republican appointees needed to deal with a Congress in which the Democrats still held considerable influence, thanks to the 60 vote rule. The GOP never held a supermajority, so any appointee to the court needed to be moderate enough to gain the support of sufficient numbers of Democrats in order to be successful. That check and balance greatly reduced the likelihood of a hard right or left Justice being appointed, and kept things more or less balanced for a very long time.

The GOP abolished that rule for Gorsuch, and now a simple majority confirms appointees. As long as the GOP can hold onto control of both houses, the Supreme Court will be pushed farther and farther to the right.

No, white Evangelicals are one of the most reliable and increasingly effective demographics in the US at this time. If Trump does not get the nomination, and the next GOP candidate panders to them the way that Trump did, they will fall all over themselves to lick the new guy's boots the way they did Trumps.

It's worse than that. The House has no role in confirming Presidential appointments. The GOP only needs to control the Senate. Even with a Democratic President, a GOP senate could just refuse to confirm nominees that weren't approved by the Federalist Society, as it did with Merrick Garland.

Constitutional Reform is unavoidable, and it is these states that suffer most from a false sense of importance:
these states have been more or less written off by innovative companies, since no high-value employees want to live there. And they are systematically making their children uncompetitive on the job market by teaching them about Noah instead of Evolution. They are putting themselves out of business.

Everything I've seen says the LDS is still growing (albeit more slowly than it has). NRA's numbers are a little harder to pin down, but they usually get an increase every time there's a major mass shooting. Republican party affiliation is decreasing though. And I think you're right that Trump is playing a role in that.

She is suggesting that we should advise our employees -- our government officials -- that we are dissatisfied with their performance, just as any responsible manager would. The difference is that they don't have to worry about being fired unless they make Dear Leader mad.

If my boss decided to inform me that he was dissatisfied with my performance while I was in a restaurant, I would be pretty upset, and would try to get my boss fired.


Of all the things that have happened in this very strange year, the incidents where administration officials and then Ted Cruz and family were run out of restaurants by mobs was the scariest. That kind of mob rule is truly un-American, and shouldn't be tolerated. The fact that a member of the House of Representatives would actually encourage such behavior is truly depressing.

Completely quitting the LDS and making them write that into their register is hard.
So there are many who just stop going to service and paying tithes without showing up on the Churches' records.
The NRA is losing members under Trump, because there is no Democratic bogeyman, and the NRA leadership is completely out of sync with what the members want.

Oh, and of course Catholics are quitting the Church in record numbers or at least refuse to send their children ... for obvious reasons.
