Lessons to be learned from the Kavanaugh Hearing

Q. What do you call a judge who was confirmed to the Supreme Court in a highly controversial process that alienated half the country?

A. "Your Honor."

Sure. That's how it works.

But are you happy about that process? I'm not. He's on the court, but his performance in the hearing suggests he's not really appropriate for the court. He will be called "Your Honor," but we shouldn't be thrilled with that.

We have a Justice who'll cry and carry on either genuinely at minor provocation, or as a performance for an audience of one. Surely there were other candidates?

What did I learn from the K hearing? That partisanship is more important to the GOP than having an unflawed justice with a crap load of baggage not supported by the majority of Americans. Disheartening.

The lesson Republicans have taught Democrats is that when you have the Senate and White House and an empty seat, get the ideologically most radical candidate you can confirm.

Also: When you get power, use it, use it to gain more power, use every trick possible as long as it is legal. Cheat when you can get away with it. If you have the power to break the law but not be held accountable for it, then break the law.

No. That will be the lesson from the NEXT nomination and appointment. This one was pretty mainstream.

You think Kavanaugh is mainstram? What is radical to you? Josef Mengele?

Ziggy illustrates just how far right the right wing has gone.

Bart implied that he would have his revenge on Liberals once he's appointed. That's extremely partisan and extremely disgusting.

I am howling. I am seething with rage. I alternate between sobs and visceral screams. Women who support Trump and Kavanaugh are gender traitors. Men who do so are accomplices to sexual assault and the deaths of women who will die if Roe v Wade is overturned.

Women are going to get their revenge on Kavanagh. He lives in the bluest place in the country. When he tries to put all this behind him, he'll find he can't. He's going to get called a rapist and a pig any time he goes out in public. Many of those women who loath him with every fiber of their being who were protesting live here.

Godwin? Really? That's just sad.

By now I should be used to such nonsense, but for some reason it's still surprising how often the left proposes new rules that they would immediately regret if they're actually forced to live under them. Be careful what you wish for, you might actually get it.

Such as?

Did you not read the quote I was responding to? Harassing public figures everywhere they go, in perpetuity.
True.

I'm on the left, but every time I see an oh-so-edgy radical young person doing some attention-grabbing thing like grafitti-ing Soviet leaders on walls, pouring water in the lap of men who "man-spread", or getting on a stage topless to "send a signal etc.", I cringe because it makes all of us look bad.

Granted, they are better than the wackos on the far right, but that's no excuse, of course.

pouring water in the lap of men who "man-spread"

I understand not liking people taking up too much space if it's crowded, but women clearly don't understand what it's like to have testicles. Unless a man's legs are skinny (mine used to be, not anymore), then it's considerably more comfortable to sit with one's legs spread, rather than mashing your nuts with your adductors.

They're supposed to sit *on* your legs, not *between* them.

They can dangle in front of your legswhen you're standing. They cannot sit on top of your legs when you are sitting. That would require more stretching than those parts are generally capable of.

You think I'm wrong? Look at what happened when Ted Cruz tried to go out to dinner with his wife while the hearings were gong on. That's Kavanagh's life now.
