New SCOTUS Judge II: The Wrath of Kavanaugh

The investigation actually secured Cavanaugh's nomination. Thanks Dems!

really?
Republicans always had the majority - Democrats have gone beyond and above what should be necessary to convince their opponents to pick a better candidate. But they were never in a position to stop any nominee the President and his party agreed on.

Wrong as usual.

That's not very nice.

The only person I've really called a liar is Ford.

And you did so based on speculation rather than evidence.

I don't think the law profs who signed that letter are lying, it's just that their opinions hold no more significance than yours or mine.

Interesting that you've now thrice dodged a parallel question about health professionals. What are you afraid of?

If 2000 doctors told you that a candidate for a medical post was a terrible idea because he was a bad doctor with no respect for his patients, would you not take their word over some dude on the street?

I forget exactly what she said, but Collins seemed to indicate she'd be a yes, too.

I remember now, she said that she thought the FBI investigation was "very thorough".

Still, re Flake: https://twitter.com/elainaplott/status/1047927165797486594

I’m told by source with direct knowledge that Flake is “still having issues” and that some colleagues are trying to “walk him through them.” Sen Coons tells me just now that Flake reached out to him and asked if they could speak at length later.

I just linked to independent proof that "boof" is used to mean "fart". Are you claiming some weird conspiracy to publish a book back in 2004 to plant a false definition for "boof" so that almost 14 years later, Kavanaugh could get away with lying about what it meant? That's some next-level delusion right there.

If you look hard enough, you'll find one person on the planet who'll 'confirm' any silly belief you can imagine.

Booferism is no way to go through life, son.

And again you dodge a perfectly valid point.

The FBI investigation was a complete disaster for the the leftists.

"Anyone notice what the FBI Director did not do?

"He did NOT hold a news conference to release the bureau’s findings.

"He did NOT decide what conclusion a superior agency (Justice/Senate) must reach.

"He did NOT make himself the center of attention.

"I hope James Comey was watching."

-- Ari Fleischer (Oct 4, 2018)

I get the impression he's still a heavy drinker. His testimony sounded like an ode to beer.

He may be a high functioning alcoholic and has learned that he can't be ralphing or boofing in his robe.

Or he could be a person who knows that the alcohol fueled stupidity of his misspent youth were a terrible idea, where he risked his health, his scholarships, his reputation among the adult world and sometimes, literally, his life, all for the sake of acting stupid while experiencing a chemically induced euphoria, and yet, despite all that, he views it nostalgically. He would never behave that way again, but it was a time in life where nothing seemed to matter but today, and today would last forever.

Kind of like everyone I know.

What's the deal with thinking that Kavanaugh is still a heavy boozer?
Primarily, he's still ACTING like a heavy boozer. His responses weren't those of someone who used to have a problem but learned to moderate.

There's also that leaked email from 2001 showing that he still got aggressively blackout drunk.

He would never behave that way again, but it was a time in life where nothing seemed to matter but today, and today would last forever.
And he chooses to convey such a poetic worldview with "I like beer?"

Most people didn't brag about tossing when they drink. Most didn't write letters to people meeting them for a vacation to warn the neighbors. Most don't have friends that remember they were sloppy mean drunks.

Ummm…..I think an awful lot of people actually did.

Ok, we didn't write many letters, but the rest of that.....yeah, we did that. Party hearty!

Maybe I just hung out with a different crowd.

The kind of reputation that can keep you from getting that cushy job later on down the road?

Kind of like everyone I know.

The people I know who "learned their lesson" tend to endearingly criticize their younger selves. The ones who breath fire back and act like nothing was/is wrong make me think about limiting my investment and exposure to them.

I feel his demeanor in the hearings was not that bad considering the circumstances from his point of view.

His demeanor was not bad for a talk show host in full rant. Possibly for a GOP politician.

For a jurist of twelve years experience on a United States Court of Appeals, applying for a seat on the highest court in the land, it was abysmal. Childish, even.

That's not true. Recall the whole front door construction thing.

If 2000 doctors told you that a candidate for a medical post was a terrible idea because he was a bad doctor with no respect for his patients, would you not take their word over some dude on the street?

In a politically charged case where the 2000 doctors had no direct experience with the candidate in question? No. That would in fact be foolish.

If you look hard enough, you'll find one person on the planet who'll 'confirm' any silly belief you can imagine.

But belief is precisely what this is about. What did Kavanaugh believe the term meant? And I provided conclusive proof that some people believed it meant fart. That indicates quite clearly that Kavanaugh could have believed that too. The claim of perjury on that point falls apart completely.

<snip>

The Republicans have made a pretty big investment in Kavanaugh. Democrats would obviously demand impeachment, and I think the Republicans would be so embarrassed that very few would dare vote in support of him.

<snip>

For the past several years (at least) the Republicans in Congress have shown little if any sign of being capable of embarrassment. They have spent the last two slavishly supporting a President who has made it abundantly clear he doesn't even grasp the concept.

I see no prospect of a sudden change.

Did all those law professors see the FBI report that exonerated him?

Those law professors were not concerned about his guilt or exoneration. They were concerned about his behavior during a confirmation hearing.

That alone was sufficient cause for them to deem him unfit to sit on the Supreme Court.

That should give even you pause for reflection, but I don't expect it will.

Ummm…..I think an awful lot of people actually did.

You think an awful lot of people are remembered by their friends for being sloppy, mean drunks?

That's too bad.

Those sorts of people were seen as not being able to hold their liquor where I grew up. And generally not all that welcome.

Maybe I just hung out with a different crowd.

Apparently so. I grew up in the coalfields of West Virginia. Hearty partying was a way of life.

Mean drunks weren't cherished, as, apparently, they were in your crowd.
