New SCOTUS Judge II: The Wrath of Kavanaugh

An op-ed? Really?

I thought this guy had it in the bag. Guaranteed. Passed the final hurdle. Then he writes an op-ed. He was trying to refute some of the nasty things said about his not so judicial personality traits on display last week. I can't think of a better way he could have made their point for him.

I wish I could be a fly on the wall. Maybe in somebody's mind it was a good idea. Does this guy have handlers? Doesn't he coordinate with the White House and/or McConnell?

Rush Limbaugh had an interesting point today about Trump mocking Ford at the rally this week. He noted that the press coverage was pretty one sided, and a lot of people would have heard "she was so credible" over and over again on the news, but they never heard anyone say, "She didn't have any evidence." By him making fun of her lack of evidence, the media would cover the "Trump is a jerk" story, and in so doing the less informed voters who only see the headlines would hear the other side.

Maybe something like that is at work here, too. I don't know. I sometimes forget that not everyone is a political junkie like us. Maybe this makes sense to them.

To my way of thinking, Brett needs 50 senators, and to heck with anyone else. I can't see how writing an op-ed describing why you were such a jerk last week is going to help get that 50th vote. However, those last few holdouts are looking at the polls to guide their final decision. Maybe this is a great decision that I don't understand because it isn't aimed at me.

We have gone from sexual abuse, to drinking in high school to law professors say he was rude at the hearing.

The word “rude” does not appear in the letter from the law professors, and your mis-characterization obfuscates their actual, legitimate point.

In a devious plot to upset the math and prediction bets:

Republican Sen. Steve Daines of Montana will be out Saturday because he will be walking his daughter down the aisle at her wedding, and would miss a confirmation vote for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh held that day, his spokesperson told CNN on Thursday.

Linky.

Clearly they are conservatives making a political statement to support their fiend. They can't be trusted to tell the truth.

Right?

Wrong as usual. The only person I've really called a liar is Ford. I don't think the law profs who signed that letter are lying, it's just that their opinions hold no more significance than yours or mine. Statements from Kavanaugh's friends that he has the temperament to be a SC justice shouldn't be considered as lies either, but they would be just as useless. Their statements about the meaning of terms they used is a fundamentally different kind of claim, though. It's a claim about facts which they have unique insight into, not merely opinions.

We know that Trump's economic expert is the only one in the US who thinks tariffs are great.
So for the White House, it doesn't matter how many professionals consider Kavanaugh unqualified as long as they find one who is ok with him.

A retired SC justice said he didn't deserve the seat. Given the court is famously collegial, that's really gotta sting.

As for the drinking game, only Kav's buddies confirm that and since they are also confirming the boof is a fart obvious lie, I think it's safe to assume they are lying about the triangle game as well.

I just linked to independent proof that "boof" is used to mean "fart". Are you claiming some weird conspiracy to publish a book back in 2004 to plant a false definition for "boof" so that almost 14 years later, Kavanaugh could get away with lying about what it meant? That's some next-level delusion right there.

Out of curiosity, did you see Stephen Colbert comparing Trump's mocking and Ford's actual testimony? Almost every single point that Trump made was a lie.

Check it out.

I wouldn't. Not all conservative justices are spoiled frat boys that drank too much then and almost certainly still drink too much now (and I bet it's not beer), that surely have little respect for women, and who are hypocritical enough to lie to Congress under oath.
Maybe not all of them ...

But seriously: I'm thinking almost entirely in terms of the midterm elections. If the Dems have any chance for a Senate majority, I would hate to see that jeopardized. Otherwise, if there's a new court opening, we have the same president and the same Senate. I'm for whatever maximizes the chances of restoring checks and balances in federal government.

If Kavanaugh is a hard boozer maybe that will shorten his lifetime tenure.

I'm beginning to think that would be the best thing all around at the moment. Kavanaugh is only one vote out of nine, and if there are so many ex-judges and highly regarded members of the legal profession expressing serious doubt about his suitability, you can be sure those doubts extend to at least some of the other eight incumbents.
I've wondered about that. I'm sure they at least like to think of themselves as out of the fray of blatant partisan politics. My feeling is that he is going to seen as beholden to Trump, much more than, say, Neil Gorsuch. I also fear he is literally beholden to whoever bailed him out of debt. It doesn't seem like he's good with money.

He could end up being a millstone around the necks of the angry Old White Men on the red side of the Senate for many years to come.
I'd like to think so.

I wish Jeff Flake would leave the party entirely.

What's the deal with thinking that Kavanaugh is still a heavy boozer?

The class of 1982 was full of heavy drinkers. At my dorm as a college freshman, we had some "social funds" available, but a strict rule that no funds could be used for purchase of alcohol. I assure you that not one dime of that money went for anything except alcohol. It's what we did.

Most of us didn't become alcoholics. I'll bet that today I drink about 20 beers per year, and maybe three shots of whiskey. My alcohol use gradually dropped off over the years, as one might expect for someone who is not an alcoholic. I don't see any reason to think that Brett has an alcohol problem today.

You are forgetting the fact that it makes no sense the way it is written.

"Have you farted yet?" doesn't make any sense

"Have you ****** a girl up the **** yet?" does make sense

Boy, you really aren’t thanking are you?

FTFY

Can you imagine asking anyone if they farted yet?

As opposed to accusing them of farting as in 'did you fart'?
