New SCOTUS Judge II: The Wrath of Kavanaugh

It doesn't strike me as fair. Kavanaugh will be making decisions for us all, not just for Senators. Closed door meetings, hiding documents and evidence from the American people is generally reprehensible.

'Sunlight is the best disinfectant'

Don't worry, I'm sure a copy will be leaked out to the media at the earliest possible convenience.

Say, fellas who appear not to know what a uniform is, how did our erstwhile heroine know that Navy blue blazer, Khakis, a Belt, a White, light blue, or light yellow solid-colored shirt, always neatly tucked into the pants and a Tasteful necktie

was part of a "uniform" designed to show off how proud they were of their school?

What a minute, I am wearing a light blue shirt, khakis, a tie, and my blazer is sitting right over at my conference table.

I am wearing a Georgetown Prep Uniform! So happy and proud!

Hee hee!

Really Big Dog? At least River didn't double down on something that obviously was wrong.

If blue blazers, ties khaki pants and light shirts, dark socks and leather dress shoes worn by every damn student every day isn't considered a uniform by you, you're more dishonest than I thought.

What exactly is "Mandatory school attire" if it is not a uniform?

Oxford English definition: 1 The distinctive clothing worn by members of the same organization or body or by children attending certain schools.

Merriam-Webster definition: dress of a distinctive design or fashion worn by members of a particular group and serving as a means of identification

broadly : distinctive or characteristic clothing

If you fail this hard on basic dictionary definitions of simple nouns, then one wonders at how accurate your pronouncements on complicated legal matters must be.

wait, wait, wait..... WAIT.

You are really claiming that a blue blazer, button down shirt, and khakis is

DISTINCTIVE???

that must be the single most drab and normal and commonplace and ordinary and boring outfit one can imagine.

I know because i am ******* wearing it!!!

can a brother get a laughing dog, you guys are slaying me today!

there is not a single thing about that outfit that would identify anyone as a member of Georgetown Prep unless you were standing in Georgetown Prep!

It looks to me like you are ignoring the evidence I presented as to how these words are commonly used. Am I mistaken in this?

Saw this today concerning Swetnick. (a letter to judiciary committee)

Meaningless. Being promiscuous and participating in group sex does not mean she was not raped.

If anything, it makes it more likely - if word got out, people might have assumed she would be more receptive, only to force the issue when she was not.

In my memories of high school, a few of the girls who were thought to be promiscuous were often targeted by the sort of "take what I want" people.

ETA: I mean really - this is a perfect example of slut shaming. This why slut walks exist - people make fun of them, but the suggestion that promiscuous people don't get raped because they obviously just consent every single time or that it is not rape because the person is promiscuous, or that they deserve it or whatever - that's an issue that has been hashed over many, many times. Which is why it has a name: slut shaming.

Worse than I thought. I assumed that Ketterer's letter was leaked. But, no, the Judiciary Committee made the slut shaming letter public on purpose.

Way to keep it classy.

"Buster and Billie," per IMdB. (Not that we're that old, but we had something similar at my HS decades later).

That is never OK. But I think I'm talking about a different dynamic, one in which the boys are degrading themselves too, by behavior that may be deeply shameful even to them. They dehumanize the girl in order to live with themselves. I think that's a very old, sad story.

Yeah and you probably wore it in high school. That's just how cool you were. At St. Mary Elephants.

Sorry, anyone wearing khakis in high school went to a private school. Add in the plain pastel shirt, tie and blazer - that was the classic private school uniform.

I knew one public school kid who wore the private school uniform, sans jacket and tie. We gave him **** about it. Constantly.

It looks to me like you are ignoring the evidence I presented as to how these words are commonly used. Am I mistaken in this?

You cited a public school in Dallas.

I cited the Georgetown prep "dress code."

Gonna have to go right ahead and pull rank.

Good effort, tho.

Yeah, because all the public school boys went around dressed like that too. Just like now. Go to the nearest public high school and watch when the students come out and count how many of them are dressed like this.

Good grief.

for the record, from an outsiders perspective looking in.

:eye-poppi

I don't see how anyone rational can possibly vote yes to confirm Kavanaugh as a SCOTUS judge at this point.

Of course he will get confirmed anyway and the vote will go along party lines because the GOP are (rightly) very nervous about the midterms and suspect that if they do not confirm him they won't have another chance to get a partisan right wing judge on the court for a long time.

(I don't for the life of me understand why picking people to serve on the SCOTUS is so rabidly political, but that's a whole other thread)

I don't know whether or not he assaulted Dr Ford. It's hard to tell from the information in the public domain, though she comes across as a *lot* more credible than he does.

I don't think anyone rational should vote to confirm him based upon his testimony period. They ought to have halted the hearing midway through, all voted "hell no!" and moved on to the next person on the list.

Most people got up to hijinx in their adolescent years. I did. The right thing to do if those events impact on your adult life is to own it and say "Yes, but I was young and stupid then and have grown up since" - as long as your hijinx didn't go so far as sexual assault and/or rape that is.

You’re pulling something, but I don’t think it’s rank.

“Dress code” and “uniform” are not mutually exclusive terms.

When everyone is dressed the same, that’s a uniform, by definition.

Because you know, they’re all uniform.

Congratulations!

Did you know you can also wear a police uniform and be wearing.....wait for it.....A Police Uniform!!!

A List of Things The Big Dog is ignorant of:

1) The Asterisk

2) The Uniform

LOL!

HI! Let me help to focus you on the actual statement.

She said she went to house parties on virtually every weekend....

Enhance, enhance, enhance:

“I believe he might have been wearing a Georgetown Prep uniform,” she added, “which a lot of the boys used to wear — at least a uniform or parts of their uniform.”

So folks, give TBD a super hand, which part of the DISTINCTIVE :D UNIFORM :D:D of a shirt, blazer and khakis :D:D:D gave our stout witness the ability to say the boys were identifiable and proud to wear.

I bet it was the khakis. Dockers! So distinctive!

//Oh man, y'all are killing me!

Yet many here seem to be more than willing to accept statements from people that knew Kavanaugh in the past. Very interesting. BTW this was a letter to the judiciary committee. Not a statement to the press, or published for web hits.

Accepting everything in the letter does not mean that the letter means anything.

She's got a kink.

Okay.

How does that suggest she's lying?

No, I am claiming that "mandatory school attire" with a narrow list of choices for said attire constitute a uniform, according to both English and US English dictionary definitions.

Do I need to link the dictionary definition of mandatory?

Uni - meaning one from the Latin word unus

form - meaning appearance.

Uniform, one appearance, hence: " distinctive or characteristic clothing"

There is no requirement to be distinctive, just that everyone wearing the uniform looks the same.

Is that simple enough for you now, or would you like me to draw you a picture?
