Well, this politcal cartoon sure is spot on.

No because even when her identity was known, this not being a criminal trial, he has no right to confront his accuser.
I addressed this objection explicitly in the passage you cut from your quote. This is dishonest, Belz...

But that isn't suppressing justice at all.
I disagree.

It's suppressing justice to ask the justice folks to investigate her claims???
FBI background checks aren't justice. They're no part of any criminal or civil justice proceeding. Again, if she has a criminal accusation, and she believes a criminal investigation would produce evidence to support it, then justice would be to ask the "justice folks" to conduct a criminal or civil inquiry, not a background check. People ask the "justice folks" to do things that aren't actually justice all the time. Petitioning an authority does not magically grant your petition standing with that authority.

You know full well that many sexual assault victims don't do that because evidence is hard to get and they feel shame or fear for speaking out or getting raped. It's unfortunate but you could at least extend a bit of understanding on this.
Yes, I do know that full well. But look here: a lack of evidence is not an excuse to pursue justice without evidence.

And this is you trying to have your cake and eat it, too. She never filed a criminal complaint because it wouldn't produce actionable evidence. But she should have an FBI background check because... it... will... produce actionable evidence?

Too bad that Bill Clinton's supporters, including his wife, engaged in a public campaign designed to destroy the credibility of the women that came forward charging ol' Bill with having a wandering penis

That would be the perfect title for his autobiography: "My Wandering Penis."

She has a motive to lie because it was predictable beforehand that she could make money off of an accusation, and subsequent events have born that out. As I said before, there is precedent. If you're in the least bit surprised by her financial windfall, you haven't been paying attention.

You are insufficiently cynical: she could have made more money by approaching the Republicans and offering her silence. Not only could they have paid her more -in certain coin, not speculative book deal hypothetical coin- but she could obtain the payoff without fame, notoriety, or harassment.

In short, if she were just out for money she chose a difficult and precarious path where a much safer and easier one existed. I feel a conclusion can be drawn from that.

Republicans have total control over the hearings - if they didn't want to hear from Ford, no one could make them.

Blaming her is very childish.

That doesn't leave women able to appeal to pure motives to support their claims. But that's actually as it should be, and it's not unique to sexual impropriety accusations by women. Claims of criminal behavior should be supported by evidence, independent of the motives of the claimant.

That's the same thing. People are always going to have ulterior motives to go after people in power. That's what being in power means.

Again you're essentially telling people that they just don't get to be victimized by people in power.

Ford's motive is unlikely to be the same, but there are indeed other possible motives. For example, maybe she really doesn't like Trump's politics, and hopes to thwart him by derailing his nominee. Maybe she's got a grudge against Kavanaugh for unrelated reasons, and is trying to get back at him. Maybe there's more than one motive in play.
That's fair. The Jackie comparison is perhaps a little far-fetched. Maybe Ford simply shares Craig4's opinion: "I know they are dirty tricks; I just don't care. The nominee's past behavior with women justifies any legal means to prevent his confirmation. You can't go too low to sink this sick ****."

Recent events don't bear that out. First, the demonstrated scale of payoff is rather small. Second, fame and notoriety can come knocking even with an NDA.

Third, nothing requires that money be the only motive here. We know she's a Democrat. She might have partisan interests as well, interests which wouldn't be served by a silent payoff.

Fabio would be the model for the penis. Not Fabio's penis, but Fabio.
Clinton's schwanz never killed a bird.

So if I'm ever sexually assaulted make sure I'm already independently wealthy (so I'm not just after money) and I'm of the same political tribe as my assailant.

Got it.

*Laughs* I remember that. Happened at Busch Gardens Williamsburg on the opening of Apollo's Chariot, which is still a damn decent roller coaster.

Funniest part of the story is that the models behind him didn't know what happened and didn't know where the blood came from until the ride finished.

No, Joe. If you're ever sexually assaulted, make sure you get some actual evidence, so that you don't have to depend on claiming purity of motive.

But that should go without saying for any victim of any crime.

It's called Occam's Razor, not Occam's Rube Goldberg Machine. You seem to want this to be simultaneously extortion for riches, a partisan political ploy, a gynocrachal conspiracy, and the fulfillment of a three decade personal grudge. How many entities are going to be multiplied until it finally seems more likely that he actually did it? There are Game of Thrones subplots with fewer moving parts.

"Hello Mr. Rapist would you ever so kindly provide me with your name, social security number, finger prints, and home of address before you go?"

You’re saying a woman alleging sexual assault should not have her credibility attacked?

Interesting take...

Serious question: If you're heard the testimony from both parties and have determined to your satisfaction that Fords' account is credible and correct, what should happen with Kavanaugh outside of rejection of his nomination? Should he face criminal charges? If not, why not?

I’m not a legal or law enforcement professional, so I can’t answer those questions.

I do, however, support a full and robust investigation into these allegations.

And this is exactly why she didn't report it. It is why most victims of sexual assault don't report it. Well done.

Blame the victim, cute.
