Merged Tesla (i.e. Musk) being naughty?

The reporting over here says that he came up with the $420 figure by taking the last trading price, adding a 20% premium - which came to $419, and then rounding up to $420 because 'he thought his girlfriend would find it funny'

Here is the story in the Daily Fail as reposted by NineMSN...

Elon Musk tweeted that he was taking Tesla private and listing the share price at $420 because he thought his girlfriend would find it funny, it's claimed.

The Securities and Exchange Commission said the tech tycoon rounded the price up from $419 to $420 - the number associated with marijuana - to get a chuckle his then-partner, singer Grimes.

Correction, he is being sued by the Securities and Exchange Commission for fraud, not charged. Even if found 100% guilty he will not have a criminal conviction.

Edit. The headline does say charged. Underneath says sued.

I think my use of the word "charged" is accurate, but could be wrong. I've googled "civil charges". Even so, you have a correct and important distinction.

This distinction may become more important given recent developments and the way this may unfold. Apparently a deal, or deals, had already been reached and declined by Tesla and/or Musk. Not clear to me that was a good move, might annoy someone to the point of pursuing criminal charges.

You are correct, the article does not describe a criminal charge.

SOme of the comments are textbook examples of a personality cult at work. The number of people who made the "Tony Stark In Real Life" comment was interesting. Surprise, Musk attracts the worship of a lot of comic book geeks who want to turn their fantasies into reality.
Just to lighten the mood slightly: Elon Musk was actually in Iron Man 2. So was Larry Ellison, but no film is perfect.

There is no measure by which Iron Man 2 is perfect. It is at best aggressively average.
