Here's Ford's opening
statement. It looks like Thursday is still going to happen as of now.
Fascinating.
Her story is quite credible on the surface, and has some interesting corroborative details. Unfortunately, I still do not believe it could have happened as it was reported by her.
The problem with the story is that there were a total of five people in the house, other than herself. It's easy to see why Kavanaugh and Judge would deny it, so we'll ignore them.
However, there were three others. (Leland Ingham, PJ Smyth, and one other unnamed) Let us assume, for the sake of argument, that the story is true. Now, we have a girl disappearing to go to the bathroom. She is gone a long time, and her two assailants head down the stairs to rejoin the other 3 partiers. Instead of rejoining the party herself, she runs downstairs and out of the house.
That would be memorable. One of the three would remember the event. Instead, Leland Ingham says she has no recollection of the event, and does not ever remember being at a party with Kavanaugh. The third person is unnamed. Presumably, he lived in the house. We can't contact him, but that's actually a mark against Ms. Ford. The details of the party are recognizable enough. If the party happened, he knows who he is. So now we are to believe that three people attended the party. One of them brought Ford with them. Ford disappeared during the party, and no one remembers?
Not buying it.
That doesn't mean Ford is lying, but it could easily mean that her memories of events are conflated. Perhaps the assault occurred, but not at the party she remembers. At a different party. If that's true, it still leaves us with no evidence beyond her own testimony, and in a situation where there ought to be more evidence. At least the information revealed today strongly supports her story that she has been talking about Kavanaugh, specifically, since 2012. That's a pretty big deal.
