I'm registered independent, likely to vote Democrat this November, but it's misleading to think I'm a Democrat.

I got nothing against our Republican governor. Maybe I should, since I don't pay too much attention to state politics, but I can't think of anything I specifically dislike about him -- except that he's endorsed a pro-Trump candidate for Senate (I think, maybe Congress, like I said, I don't pay much attention).

I am decidedly anti-Trump and disappointed at those who support him.
 
It's customary to have a Planet X option, which is usually humorous, and stands in for the "none of the above" option.

For example, something like,

[ ] On Planet X, parties vote for you.

I live in Portland, OR, so I probably won't bother to vote nationally. Locally, my votes will go to the least dumpster-fiery progressives on the ballot, as best I can determine. One nice thing about voting locally is that party is less relevant than platform and policy.

I thought Planet X was long ago overrun with self-identified Independents.

I considered adding a 4th option for "I'm not voting"
 
The Republican party actions have basically ensured I'll never even consider voting Republican again.

At the same time I don't love the Democratic party, they're just generally the least worst option.

I could call myself independent, but voting and policy wise I still usually fall on the Democratic side.
 
WRT the pollers who selected "independent". What does that mean when there is no one on the ticket for an office running as Independent ?
Does that mean you will not cast a vote for that office?

No Libertarian option, and the inexcusably conspicuous absence of a Planet X option renders this entire poll null and void.

That's what the independent option is for.

What I have in mind is to compare the results of this with the actual results of the election and get a feel for how the forum votes in comparison to the public at large.
 
I'd be a Republican if there were still room in the party for people like Tom McCall, Mark Hatfield, Allen Simpson, Bob Packwood (minus all the sexual weirdness). It's embarrassing to be a Republican now. You have to reject education and science. The Republican party is no longer the party of Eisenhower who responded to Sputnik with an aggressive math and science education program at all levels of education. Pretty much to be a Republican, you have to tell the world you're stupid and like being stupid. I didn't leave the party. The party left me.


As for Trump, that's just a matter of patriotism. Real Americans, loyal Americans don't support Trump. If you support Trump, you're a hyphenated, something less than a true American. We're waiting to welcome you back once you renounce the treason that is supporting Trump.
 
Me too, except I'm in Washington instead of Oregon so it'd be Dan Evans. I grew up as a progessive Republican. My first presidential vote was for Nixon, because McGovern was a loon.
Now, I won't vote for a Republican for any office whatsoever. I didn't leave the party, it left me by embracing racists and other idiots.

I'm not voting in the poll, because the OP just thinks he's proving something about the forum.
 
Not quite a blue dog Democrat but close. I may yet vote for our incumbent Republican Governor. Interestingly the couple of Republicans I can recall voting for in the past were essentially squeezed out of their own party by the neocons, and ended up independent, and I imagine the only reason why Vermont's Gov. Scott hasn't been savaged by the party is because he's not important enough.

I don't much care for the Libertarian agenda of the Guns and Dope Party, but I like their slogan: "If you can't achieve kindness, at least attempt courtesy."

Functionally Independent. I'm registered Republican, because in my state the Democratic candidate tends to be picked by the party leadership, rather than in the primary. Voting in the Republican primary has, at least, the possibility of having an effect.

During the last general election I cast a blank ballot for president. I couldn't bring myself to vote for any of those people. First time I haven't voted in the presidential race.
