Split Thread Conservative Voices (Split from Muller Investigation)

Did you see the images? We're not talking about cat ears, here.

Well, it's more difficult to be taken seriously when you look ridiculous.

I can relate.

I said previously that the cat ears were a great example of capitalism. Genius by who ever marketed it. Not the same as the costumes or nude yelling.

The only thing we seem to be disagreeing on here is the premise that these costumes or nude displays somehow help the cause or help feminism. I would completely disagree with that concept. In fact, I think it may be one of the things that changes peoples perceptions on feminism in a bad way.

I'm all for anyone's right to protest. (as long as it's done legally)

I don't think it's meant to. And I doubt it changes people's perception of feminism in a bad way.either. I've been to quite a few gay pride parades and seen far more outrageous costumes than those. Feminism isn't about the costumes just as the burning of bras wasn't either. I've seen outrageous costumes at Mardi Gras too.

People do stupid things, like smoke, getting piercings or tattoos but I don't dislike those people.

Do you deny the forum/members have a left lean?

As a leftist, I do. The forum average in here is politically somewhere around Bush Sr and Bill Clinton. Conservative.

I guess if you're used to the alt-right world, where a few women wearing vagina consumes at a protest is very politically relevant and meaningful, the forum would seem "left" by comparison, though.

Is skepticism and critical thinking right or left of what we consider to be the American political center? I can only answer based on my own understanding of that spectrum.

There are plenty of conservative skeptics, but I assume that skepticism trends left owing to general questioning of authority, irreligiosity, etc. Skeptics question social norms, established modes of thinking, etc. In that regard, I can see skepticism being less likely to attract literal conservatives, i.e., folks who are generally not in favor of rapid socioeconomic change.

If we're already a little bit left of center that doesn't surprise me. If we seem even more left of center than we were historically I'd wonder if that's an artifact of a rejection of Trumpism? I'm sharply critical of that blowhard any chance I get, but what I'm struggling with in this thread is how anti-Trump is pro-left. That's why it's so important to provide specific examples.

Is Trump conservative? I don't know. He's generally anti-regulation, but he ain't no deficit hawk. Despite MAGA he doesn't seem to be concerned about process or tradition in the function of government. If anything, I see him interested in amassing greater power in the executive branch of the federal government than in passing more of it on to the states. Trump is Trump. He's his own thing.

Some members lean left. Some members lean right. We are not a monolithic block. Are you referring to an average? Because, on that, I have no idea. I'm not sure there has been any data collected along those lines.

There certainly have been plenty of assumptions made, but I don't care much about assumptions. This being skeptics forum and all.

I see few social conservatives that are skeptics. Skepticism doesn't lend itself very well to what people call 'traditional values. In fact, I CANNOT see a true skeptic believing in any religion or anything supernatural for that matter.

Economic conservatives is another matter. I've seen lots of libertarians and some that believe in the Austrian school of thought which is very conservative.

I think we're down to only one left now. The Zombie Economic VooDoo Which Will Not Die might actually, finally, be dying. Thank the stars.

I haven't been over to the economic forum in a while. I seem to remember many more than 1 touting it.

Yeah, there used to be lots and lots. I think their predicted hyperinflation never manifesting finally made them wander off to regroup or something.

Perhaps a poll is in order at some point.

Actually social media lists me as a moderate from my postings and interactions.

I would agree with that assessment. A little like Reagan but more narcissistic and brash. I'm not a Trump lover, but I definitely am happy he was elected over HRC. For many reasons.

We'd still have our place in the world if Hillary had been elected. She wasn't my favorite but nothing justifies a vote for a Russian whore. I can't imagine what you saw as worse than selling out your country to the Russians.

I'm a patriot and love this country, thank you very much. If Trump is found guilty of collusion with the Russians I hope he enjoys a nice sentencing from it. However, I seriously doubt that will happen. I do not think Trump colluded with anyone to win. He convinced people to vote by campaigning, and more than most presidents has already delivered on a lot of his campaign promises. Do I agree with all of his agenda? Nope. Also, I dislike his personality. To say someone that voted for Trump sold out their country is ignorant.

ETA: this is coming from someone that voted for Obama both terms.

Except I don't consider myself to be liberal or conservative. I just want the best country and best world for the greatest number of people. You might peg me as a liberal but I see myself as a pragmatist.

Can someone point me to a thread here that teaches how to make polls? Thanks in advance!

Please, you're a Trump supporter. You can't be that and still a patriot.

When you start to make a new thread, at the very bottom of the screen you'll see a little box you can click that gives you the option of making a poll. See it at the bottom?
