Cont: The Trump Presidency IX: Nein, Nein!

It's the combination of the fact that the letter was drafted, presumably for signature and delivery; the fact that it was removed by someone so that it would not be signed and delivered; and finally that the occupant of the Oval Office is so ******* addled that he apparently didn't notice and immediately forgot about a huge policy decision.

There is no level on which this story is good, and every level indicates that the current administration is operating in a most insane fashion.

It's one thing to believe this kind of thing is going on, it's another to have the evidence dropped right in front of us. It should make it impossible for anyone to defend this White House.

Oh, I agree. I just thought your reaction was a bit strong.

Quite honestly nothing surprises me about Trump anymore.

Trump to his supporters, "If I'm impeached, it's your fault."

And he seems to think that even the people calling for his impeachment think he's doing a great job.

"I'll be the only President in history they'll say: 'What a job he's done! By the way, we're impeaching him,'" Trump said.

"'We will impeach him!'" Trump shouted, "'But he's doing a great job!' 'Doesn't matter.' Remember that line, 'He's doing a great job.' That doesn't matter. We'll impeach him.'"

He also believes that impeaching him will destroy the government and society. No ego there.

Trump later warned the United States would turn into a "third world country" because of the precedent his hypothetical impeachment would set.
"But let's say a Democrat gets elected, and let's say we have a Republican House. We will impeach that Democrat, right? And then a Republican. We won by a lot. We won by a hell of a margin," Trump said.
"If the opposite party becomes president, every time before it even starts, before you've even found out whether or not he or she is going to do a great job, they'll say, 'We want to impeach him' and you'll impeach him," Trump said. "It's so ridiculous."

That Trump sees impeachment only as a political cudgel to employ for partisan gain says more about Trump than it does about the veracity of the impeachment process.

He's managing a few things simultaneously, here.

He's telling people they have to vote, in order to try to protect himself. He's admitting that a Republican House will protect him. He's saying that the impeachment would be a trick by the Democrats, rather than something legitimate. He's laying the groundwork that will enable himself to have an excuse if he is impeached - that the Democrats are out to get him, and that it's his supporters' fault for not voting.

Trump Tweets

"The Woodward book is a scam. I don’t talk the way I am quoted. If I did I would not have been elected President. These quotes were made up. The author uses every trick in the book to demean and belittle. I wish the people could see the real facts - and our country is doing GREAT!"
