Trump isn't stupid. He understands exactly how to manipulate those who are stupid.

Seriously what do you base that on?

He seems to me from his public pontifications over the years and his current performance to exhibit all the signs I expect from someone who is stupid.

We also now have several sources that those who have worked with him daily also consider him to be extremely stupid.

You have to admit, he's "gifted" at manipulating people who are more stupider than even he is, right?

Like, he's bordering on savant-level at confidence artistry.

Honestly no I don't. That he reacts to stimulus isn't a sign of intelligence!

I think if you want to see the prime example of how he simply reacts to stimulus look at the rally in which he ended up saying Obama founded ISIS. You can see and hear he is simply reacting to crowd feedback, he has no thought of what he is saying, as long as the crowd feedback is good he continues, that really takes no thought.

I was incredibly embarrassed for her. She is a complete imbecile. There is the rather obvious detail that he wouldn't be aware of where everyone he talked to worked.

I think she knows exactly who works there who he talked to, and she has evidence, and he's lying.

Time will tell!

All anyone ever does is react to stimulus, technically. Some people just have better computational stuff in the old noggin. LOL

I don't think he's an "evil genius" kind of smart, but I think he's a pretty talented huckster.

She presented no evidence that he would know the person she thinks he talked to worked for that firm.

If he doesn't know they work for them, he didn't lie. And that is a hard lie to prove. Which is why her line of inquiry was so stupid.

It takes talent to see an opportunity and grab It? Sounds more like risk happened to pay off sufficiently.

Well, as I pointed out in the SCOTUS thread, there are 7 people who work in the DC offices, so he wouldn't have to know much to know who works there. And there's an easy way to prove he was being deliberately deceptive - just look at how he dances around the question of whether or not he's spoken to anybody other than his fellow judges about the Mueller investigation. He never actually answers the question.

But the answer must be "yes". If the answer were "no", then he wouldn't have to know who worked at the law firm in order to say that he hadn't discussed it with anybody who works there, because he would know he'd only discussed it with judges and that judges don't work for law firms.

I've also seen it pointed out that Harris is a prosecutor, and I've seen it said many times that a prosecutor doesn't ask a question like that in a situation like that unless they already know the answer. So, yes, I think you're quite right - she knows who he discussed it with, and she may have evidence to prove it.

Is Trump appealing to his base really a talent, or is it just that he happens to be the kind of person who says the kind of things they want to hear?

Kamala Harris grilling Kavanaugh about whether or not he's spoken with the law firm representing Trump about Mueller. 8 minutes, and worth watching.

That was weird. Were I in that hot seat, seems to me that the easy answer would be...

Given that it is a "hot ticket" item in the daily news, I have had many conversations about the Mueller investigation with friends, family and colleagues. Were any of those persons employees of said law firm? Not that I am aware.

I'm not au fait enough with US politics to say how true this is, but I've seen it said that he shouldn't have been discussing it with anybody, since he's known he was a potential SCOTUS appointee since Trump was elected.

As I say, I don't know how true that is, but it would make sense of his dodging around the question of whether or not he's spoken about it with anybody other that judges if: a) the above didn't apply to judges and b) he was attempting to deceive without actually committing perjury.

The only talent he has is that of a used car salesman.

He's basically Cobra Commander, then.

It was worked for the law firm that a lawyer from works for Trump.

She didn't say lawyer. She said anyone. Law firms employ people that are not lawyers.

Good point. Senator Harris probably brought it up because she heard a rumor that Kavanaugh once mentioned the Mueller investigation to a coffee boy at that law firm.

One thing I don't understand about how the law works is how useful the "I don't remember/I do not recall" strategy ends up being.

If he talked to someone at that law firm about Mueller, he would too recall/remember, way beyond reasonable doubt, so it would still be perjury. ("Be perjury" in all reality, in an existential sort of sense, even if he'd win the legal battle for whatever mysterious reason it is that makes that technique effective in legal proceedings.)
