John McCain Diagnosed With Brain Cancer

Yeah. Better to sit around and let McCain be falsely lionized. "He was just too good for us," they'll say wistfully. "He was a hero," they'll report, ignoring that he spent most of his post-POW life ******** on the American people.

He's worm food and the world is at least a tiny bit better because of that.
Wow, you sound like many of the Trump supporters I've been seeing posting on the U.S. Navy Facebook announcement. It looks like the edgiest of the extremes can reach common ground.

There's a time and a place. Frankly, I think this is a place where the false lionization of a dead political whore can and should be called out. As for the time, well, nobody's going to give a **** in a week.

Some old guy died. People die all the time. Some of them have even been POW's.

Some are five year olds dying from cancer.

Yay.

Yep. And over on Cyclingnews Forums they're talking about the start of the Vuelta. Why aren't they talking about five year olds dying from cancer?

As crazy leftwing radicals go, I think I've got most of you covered in terms of street cred. I agree that there's a time and a place... and it's in the history books and public record.

I can give it a rest until they've had time to bury him. The time to "Let's Discuss Ike's Legacy" was not the moment he died. It was fourteen years before when he was sitting around with his thumb up his ass and hoping desegregation would just go away, in the immediate aftermath of his presidency, and for years after. I can give it a rest for a few weeks and appreciate that however misguided I may have found him, he "represented" as today's youtes would say.

Pissing on a grave requires, at minimum, a grave. Right now it's "pissing on his pall bearers, his kids and close friends", tbh.

That's fine. We've all got our standards. I just don't have a lot of patience for attempts to whitewash the memory of someone I consider - with neither irony nor exaggeration - a traitor to the people of his country. About the only good thing he did in his political life was to lose the 2008 presidential election...unfortunately, though thankfully defeated, his campaign had its own long-term negative consequences in that it glamorized conservative stupidity and ignorance, paving the way for our current national nightmare.

I also feel compelled to note that waiting to say these things only ensures that nobody will be listening when your waiting period ends.

I have the same feelings about McCain as I have about Comey and the rest of the intelligence service retirees and firedees. There's a lot of baggage there. Crap, anyone who forgets the FBI and NSA have been spying on political dissidents to this day has a defective memory.

But when it came to the choice between total hypocrisy and a cop-out on ones values, McCain and Brennan said no to Trump. Not very many of their colleagues can say that.

I'm going to go with: McCain was alright in the end, even if he was mostly in the GOP camp.

Wow. I thought somebody here might have some class. Silly me. **** you all.

"My heart is broken. I am so lucky to have lived the adventure of loving this incredible man for 38 years. He passed the way he lived, on his own terms, surrounded by the people he loved, in the place he loved best."

-- Cindy McCain (Aug 25, 2018)

Yep, after 12 years here I should know better.
But what's said on this board is most likely better than you'll see from Trump's hard-core supporters. One poster here, a liberal, is unloading on him. No one else is.

In something I read today he admitted going into Iraq was a mistake. I don't know when he acknowledged that. I don't know if he understood how much his stance on immigration would hurt him with many Republicans.

That's when I started seeing really disgusting stuff in the public discourse (from "conservatives" BTW).

He wanted to win over those people though. I don't know why he thought he could.

People forget he was offered a way out of the Hanoi Hilton because his father was an admiral, and he refused because the only way he was getting out is if everybody else got out. As a result he was tortured for several years.

He's a legitimate hero, and yet every time people tried to say he was, he'd push that title it onto someone else.

This is fair, and I apologize to everybody here who is not unloading on him. I just came here completely grief-stricken and lashed out.

I don't mind admitting that McCain's death struck me especially hard. I've mentioned at times that I was actually offered the job of the McCain campaign's official blogger in 2007, and I say that as not some kind of wow, look at me, it was completely a fluke. I will add here that I never met him, and the job offer was a little loose--it was an if we offered you the job, would you take it, rather than we want you right now. Unfortunately accepting required me to move to DC and at the time McCain looked dead in the water.

I rather liked McCain. Back in 2008 I figured whoever won the Presidency we'd get someone with integrity.
