Representative Duncan Hunter indicted for stealing $250k from campaign

Duncan Hunter, Sr. is claiming this is a political "late hit" on his son:

"The Democrat attorneys who went to Hillary Clinton’s fundraisers before they did this know they had all the records on my son a year and a half ago,” he said. “Now they are waiting until a few weeks before the election when it’s going to be very hard to get a trial finished and clear his name."

However, that is a lie:

But contrary to Hunter Sr.’s remarks, the Justice Department under Attorney General Jeff Sessions, not Clinton lawyers, announced a criminal investigation of the younger Hunter back in March 2017.

Somehow, I think Hunter Jr. will still win. And if he does, that doesn't say much for the people who would rather have a crook who stole from them than a Dem.

He spent $1,500 on Steam games, according to the indictment. $1,500. On Steam.

At $60 per game that's 25 games. Assuming it was over a couple years it' may be on the high end but not crazy high.

To me, what makes it bizarre is how penny ante it is. Many of the Steam charges were under $20. I guess if you're already breaking the law you might as well go all the way, but it really shows how little anyone cared about even a pretense of propriety.

I am curious to exactly what games he bought on Steam.....

Even games with mild nudity need to be censored before going on Steam so I doubt there would be anything particularly embarrassing. My guess is his account doesn't look too different than a typical gamer with money to spend and prone to impulse buys when things go on sale.

From the list of charges found here, based on the amounts and the frequency, it looks like most of the charges are from someone who was playing a game with in-game purchases - could be anything.

So Trump's first supporter on Capitol Hill has been indicted for insider trading, now his second for misuse of campaign funds. We know the RNC server was hacked along with the DNC's, but none of the dirt on Republicans was ever released.

Maybe it was used for blackmail purposes instead?

You have to think that of course, the Russians would hack Trump and RNC servers, too, and that they'd find stuff a lot juicier than the Hillary and DNC email pseudo-scandals. There's still an unsolved mystery that Rachel Maddow mentioned again last night about the Trump server that was communicating with an Alpha Bank computer in Russia. I still wonder if maybe the Russians had inserted a virus.

Well, we will see. It's now Republican philosophy I guess to oppose the rule of law.

The request to force two prosecutors to recuse themselves goes back to July, so they've been baking this story for weeks.

Their argument is that it's the prosecutors who are opposing the rule of law (by using it to crush their political enemies with ginned up charges).

I understand that usually when one purchases a censored game on Steam one can then follow directions given by the game's maker to visit their website to download a file that will uncensor the game.

I'm also thinking it's his kids. A lot of the expenses I've seen itemized were for the benefit of family in general. The biggest ones appear to be vacations, for example.

Actually,my question was more of idle curiosity then anything else........

What depressed me a bit was seeing the utter consumption involved. I mean, versus capital investment. If I was embezzling, I can't imagine spending it on consumables, y'know? Probably going to prison for stuffed duck decorations.

It's like Brewster's Millions, nothing to show for all that embezzlement.

The article I read said they were very bad with money. Maxed out credit cards, $40k in overdraft fees, deeply in debt, etc.

If I were to embezzle I'd steal the money, invest it, then return the original amount before anybody noticed it was gone. But then I'm not bad at money.

Some sort of embezzler's dilemma: the people who are desperate enough o embezzle are rarely good enough at managing money to actually benefit long term forms he embezzlement.

Like people who steal from casinos and then blow all the money on gambling.

I wonder if there's a selection bias. The competent 'doubled the money and returned what i stole' segment maybe just don't get caught?

Which just highlights a depressing aspect of the current US government.

Somewhere between serial bankruptcy and embezzlement to pay for kitch, It seems to be populated by an executive and representatives who are shockingly financially incompetent.

I think you can play Ages of Empires II on Steam.
Then with all the expansion packs, thats like a hundred bucks.
