The Right Wing Government is closing Mosques, going to make Jews and Muslims who want to buy Kosher and Halel Food to Register with the Government, and is taking Austria into Russia's Orbit.

And, according to the Washington Post, Other European countires are freezing Austria out of intelleigence cooperation out of fear whatever they share will go straight to Russia Intelligence.
Let's elect a party founded by ex SS Officers and seem to be following right in the footsteps of the Nazis. Nice.

During 70 years desperately wanted to believe Hitler was German and Beethoven Austrian, contrary to the facts. They have always tried to present themselves as the first victimes of the Nazis, but history shows this is not really true.

What we have now is the result of this loss of collective memory of some well-established historical realties. For instance some of the worst nazi criminals were Austrian, e.g. Ernst Kaltenbrunner, Alois Brunner, Arthur Seyss-Inquart pr Franz Stangl.

I think it's bad enough that they have state-level ministers willing to make such proposals. One assumes they are not just random morons who wandered in looking for shelter, but persons picked by the party from a number of potential candidates.

And closing places of Worship and making you country a de facto puppet of Putin is bad enough.
And , as you point out, having a minister of state make a proposal like this isn't just a canary in the mine, but a full scale fire siren.

That is because Austria managed to sell the Allies in the wake of Germany's collapse that Austria was a "victim of Nazi aggression".
In reality, a fair plebiscite on the Anschuluss would have been very,very,close.
But because it was classified as a victim of Nazi Aggresion, Austria never had the kind of purging by the occuptation authorities that Germany Underwent.A lot more of the guilty slipped between the cracks in Austria.

That sounds about right. I did have Alan Coren in my mind when I typed but couldn't think of a book he'd written that it might have been in.
