Cont: The Trump Presidency VIII

It is a farce:

"There was no conversation about Michael Flynn. The President didn't find out that Comey believed there was until about, I think, it was February when it supposedly took place. Memo came out in May. And in between, Comey testified under oath, in no way had he been obstructed at any time," Giuliani told CNN's "State of the Union" anchor Jake Tapper. "

Rudy's as bad a liar as his boss:

Trump Tweets

"The NFL players are at it again - taking a knee when they should be standing proudly for the National Anthem. Numerous players, from different teams, wanted to show their “outrage” at something that most of them are unable to define. They make a fortune doing what they love......"

"....Be happy, be cool! A football game, that fans are paying soooo much money to watch and enjoy, is no place to protest. Most of that money goes to the players anyway. Find another way to protest. Stand proudly for your National Anthem or be Suspended Without Pay!"

This is awesome. I'm glad a group of people very much in the publics eye are basically sticking their middle finger up to Trump. He must be seething that he can't just have them shot or something.

Are the clubs supporting their players? Are they likely to fine/suspend them under pressure from Trump?

American football was a mainstay of American culture. By blowing the kneeling thing out of proportion, he is using his selective patriotism to destroy that.

Bull in a China shop.

Giuliani is like every other Trump mouthpiece who has sold their soul for a job: lie, lie, lie then lie some more. Don't worry that there is video/audio of you saying what you are now denying saying: the base will believe whatever we tell them to believe. They know they can't trust their lying eyes and lying eyes. We told them so.

I'm pretty sure he's operating under the incorrect theory that it's only obstruction of justice if it's successful. It's too bad Giuliani has no experience as a prosecutor.

if by soul, you mean moral compass or self-respect then for many Trump (ETA staffers NOT SUPPORTERS), is there any evidence it ever existed?

Giuliani was once a man who had a soul, who said and did the right things immediately after 9/11 to touch peoples' hearts and help heal a city. Now he is a souless dwarf, a distorted empty ruin of the man I once thought him to be.

I am convinced that everyone Trump touches becomes far the worse as a result. True of Giuliani too but I think that Giuliani was already well on the road to step by step destroying all that I once respected in him. Trump only gave Rudy a more public platform to convincingly display his moral dissipation. And perhaps mental degeneration as well.

I'm not sure he was ever that person. He did a good job for a while of portraying himself as such however.

Trump posing for pictures with the Bikers. One wearing a patch proclaiming 'I love Guns and Titties' another with a Nazi SS tattoo on his arm and a Luftwaffe eagle round his neck.
trump carefully covering up a Harley Davidson Racing patch on another guys arm.

Classy people.

Jeff Sessions confirmed that he left Comey alone with the president, so what was supposedly discussed? Remember Trump's nonsense about "Comey better hope there aren't tapes"? Why not just say Flynn wasn't discussed at all?

Hard to believe that so many Trump supporters don't mind being calling dumb***** by the man they idolize.

ETA: And Giuliani is just bizarre. He's a bigger train wreck than Trump himself.

I don't blame the bikers for being upset about Harley Davidson. That company has been an icon for US manufacturing. Bikers paid a premium for Harley Davidson motorcycles even though they weren't ever better. Everything else was a 'rice burner'. I think HD is making a monster of a mistake. Now they are just like every other motorcycle. They will lose their cache over this. Not that any of this makes Trump worthy of support.

HD's argument is that they would lose their European business if they don't make bikes there. They will continue to make bikes in the U.S. for the American market. How much should HD have to give up to swallow Trump's crazy tariffs?

This is a calculation they have to make.

I just know the attitude of US HD riders on this. When I use to ride, one would pay twice as much for a big Harley than you would pay for a comparable and far more reliable Japanese motorcycle and HD riders would pay it and wouldn't even consider buying a rice burner.

Better at what?

Certainly not acceleration or handling or braking.

But they excel at having the right image, the right sound, a heritage dating back to 1903 and resale value usually far surpassing other marques.

Some will always value form over function. Or style over substance. That’s hardly a unique attribute of Harley owners.

I can point to Japanese motorcycles that one would have difficulty distinguishing from a Harley Davidson motorcycles at a cursory view.

The Japanese bikes would run smoother and were far less likely to leave you stranded than an HD. Half the price, twice the power and 4 times more reliable, but they were rice burners so Harley riders wouldn't consider them. That would be heretical. It was ALL about image.

One of my co-workers used to refer to those as "Honda-Davidsons". It's quite amazing how you can make a water-cooled V-4 look like an air-cooled V-twin.

Kawasaki use to sell the Vulcan series of big V-Twin cruiser and so did Honda with their VTX series as well as Suzuki. They looked one hell of a lot like Hogs but they were liquid cooled.

So, I guess the real patriots will switch to Indians, Aces, or Hendersons. A good one of those can be bought fairly cheaply, right. :D

(BTW, I am not a motorcycle guy, what I know about American bikes I learned from the American Pickers show.
