Sounds like he ought to keep denying collusion, then.

He must absolutely keep denying.

In the event of damning evidence being found and presented, his main recourse is to the court of public opinion. If he can persuade 40% of the US electorate that there was a witch hunt and he's not guilty then the GOP will continue to support him and he will never be indicted.

You only missed: ——> Thanks, Russia!

Also: -----> We were smart to use Russia's help.

The increased referencing that collusion is not a crime makes it seem like they're going to just tweet out bragging that they did it to get ahead of the Mueller report.

trump Tweets

"Collusion is not a crime, but that doesn’t matter because there was No Collusion (except by Crooked Hillary and the Democrats)!"

Actually, it gets him out from testimony under oath. Tweets aren't made under oath, so the "lying under oath" goes away.

ETA: Or at least they think it does.

I don't know that it gets him out of anything. But it might set a foundation for using his tweets as evidence. After all, his own lead attorney has claimed that they constitute testimony by Trump.

That doesn't mean that it will be the only testimony required from Trump, but it does seem like it lends weight to entering them as additional testimony.

That isn't something that would work to Trump's advantage.

After all, his own lead attorney has claimed that [tweets] constitute testimony by Trump.

Except for the time his attorney allegedly authored one of Trump's more incriminating tweets:

"I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!"

John Dowd almost perfectly captured Trump's voice. Amazing. As David Frum has remarked, "If you support Trump, you will end by betraying every ideal you ever cherished, every promise you ever made."

The biggest misconception surrounding the special counsel probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election is that it will likely end in some sort of legal proceeding involving President Donald Trump. It won't -- for a bunch of reasons, the most important of which is that Robert Mueller, who is running the investigation, doesn't seem to believe a sitting President can be indicted.

The much more likely outcome is that Mueller releases the findings from his investigation sometime this fall — and lets the chips, as they relate to Trump, fall where they may. Which means — and this is what Trump and his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani have understood for months — that, ultimately, this isn't a legal fight, it's a public relations one.
