The Trump machine can mount credible threats of that nature?

Trump got the GOP to support Moore after most of the leadership came out saying they thought he sexually assaulted teenage girls.

Or the GOP would have done that anyway. Which means you think they're more vile than even I think they have become from their own devices.

Hey! Why are you insulting LARPs? This is just flat out lies, long debunked moronics, and pettiness. LARPs tend to at least try to be rational, within their general settings. This doesn't even try.

They would very like have done that anyways in a cynical calculation that they would be more likely to win and keep their very narrow majority, that way. Trump may well have provided cover to make the choice easier, though.

I suspect at least some of Manfort's crimes would have taken place in New York, which currently has a Democrat governor.

His current trial will take place in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The current Governor of Virginia is Ralph Northam, also a Democrat... so no luck there either.

Didn't see anyone here report on this:

Republicans launch bid to impeach US deputy attorney general

House of Representatives conservatives have filed articles of impeachment in an effort to oust Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

The articles were introduced by Representatives Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan, who accuse him of stonewalling their requests for information.

Mr Rosenstein denies the accusations.

The articles of impeachment, which were filed on Wednesday evening, criticise Mr Rosenstein for allegedly failing to comply with requests for documents relating to special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Is this a storm in a teacup?

More than that. To steal commentary from the second of Stacko's links... Article I accuses Rosenstein of failing to recuse himself from an investigation that does not exist. Articles II & IV accuse him of withholding or redacting law enforcement sensitive information from document productions, something DOJ has consistently done for decades. Article III accuses him of supervising an “unnecessary redaction” and then acknowledging it as a mistake. Article V accuses Rosenstein of supervising events that occurred during the Obama administration.

If only we could believe that it's a pathetic April Fools joke instead of more of the repeated and blatant attempts to obstruct justice by that group of Republicans.

It would be nice to see trump crushed in next election by a progressive human being who then proceeds to reverse all the stupid stuff trump has done

It would, but my political fantasy is different and, I think, much less likely. I'd like to see Trump crushed in the Republican primary by some decent human being.

Despite my current near-despair over the state of the Republican party, I don't consider myself a Democrat. In my fantasy world, I want to see (at least) 2 good political parties in the US. I'd like to have a presidential election where I had to choose the better of two good options, not the less-awful of two bad options.

A Republican repudiation of Trump would, IMO, be a sign that the Republican party is recovering, and I would welcome that.

Define "progressive". Are you referring to someone who's got far-left political and economic views? (i.e. a Bernie Sanders type)? Or just someone who's not a total asshat?

I'd prefer if it were a moderate, slightly left of center individual, someone who will reverse Trump's lunacy but not promote a strong backlash. Just on the off chance that an idiot Trump supporter could say "Hey, a Democrat got elected and the world didn't collapse. Maybe I should give them a chance next time".

But then, Obama governed pretty much from a moderate position and still got condemned for "taking our guns and giving us death panels" (neither of which he did), so what do I know?

LARP?

They invited Rosenstein to LARP and he didn't want to so, now they are going to impeach him?

I know no other meaning for LARP. Back in the day before tabletop roleplaying gained it's current popularity, LARPers were the group that even my low-caste group of nerds could still laugh at or feel embarrassed about. Even now, I can't look at that picture without shaking my head and thinking, "Guys. C'mon. Just... just don't."

Rod Rosenstein not being a LARPer only speaks better of him, IMHO.

Could've been some Congressional thingy...???
Legal Access Request Procedure or something like that.

I've never done it myself, but it looks like fairly harmless Saturday afternoon fun to me.

Now, football (U.S.A. style). That seems rather silly to me. Dressing up in armor, etc.,

Also;

It didn't say that. It said he didn't want to join in their LARP.

He might be a wild and crazy LARPing fool with the right people.

Trying to imagine what Trump Lackey Republicans™ would want to do in a LARP makes me want to give my brain a shower.

I don't think I blame him for wanting to avoid it.

This caught me as hilarious with regards to the Rosenstein impeachment:

"I’m not a big fan of drama,” Gowdy said

Hahaha come on Trey, who you kidding?
