Cont: The Trump Presidency VIII

Trump is now claiming he misspoke or was misquoted. When he said "I don't see any reason why it would be Russia," he meant "wouldn't." Gee, that makes everything ok, right? And we all believe him, right?

The really sad thing is that his base will believe him. Even though substituting "wouldn't" for "would" makes no sense in context with the rest of his statements, they will swallow it like, well, Stormy Daniels.

Trump Tweets

"The meeting between President Putin and myself was a great success, except in the Fake News Media!"

"The Democrats want to abolish ICE, which will mean more crime in our country. I want to give ICE a big cheer! Vote Republican in November."

“Angela was a superstar until she allowed millions of people to come into Germany,” Trump said in an interview with the*Fox News*host and Trump ally Tucker Carlson, which aired on Tuesday. “That really hurt her badly, as you know. She was unbeatable in any election. She allowed millions of people to come in … it was the great migration and obviously, it’s hurt Angela very much.”

In conclusion, Trump said: “I don’t want to say who is better and who is not, but I will say this, she’s been very badly hurt by immigration – very, very badly.”

...

In the interview, Trump also took credit for pushing Nato members to increase spending on their defense budget but once again appeared confused about how the alliance works.

“The secretary-general said that because of President Trump, last year we had an additional $44bn – with a B – billion dollars raised for Nato and this year, it’s going to be much more than that, and the countries all agreed,” Trump bragged.

But the countries aren’t raising money for Nato, as Trump suggested. Rather, Nato members are inching closer to a commitment made in 2014 to spend 2% of each country’s gross domestic product on its defense by 2024. During the Brussels summit, the members again pledged to meet that goal.

Apparently he has nothing to say about the way Putin is running his country but he won't hesitate for a second to bash Merkel. Note that he was given a 100 page report on US-Russian relations beforehand so he shouldn't have any trouble naming the ways Putin has acted against his own peoples interests.

In 2024. It is not supposed to be at least 2% now. The agreement specifically said to grow defense spending so that it will reach the target of 2% of GDP by 2024.

It is entirely dishonest to leave out that timeline and pretend that any NATO member is doing anything wrong right now. Nearly every country currently under 2% on that chart has in fact been raising spending over the past 4 years.

Some of which... I wouldn't care about much anyways. I honestly completely don't care if Luxembourg failed to meet that 2%, quite frankly.

However, I imagine the US total spend (not the % GDP) in the European area is going to still be much larger than all the other countries combined.

And that was specifically intended from the start, most likely, by the US. The reasons for that should likely be addressed in any honest consideration about how things should change, though.

Trump is now claiming he misspoke or was misquoted. When he said "I don't see any reason why it would be Russia," he meant "wouldn't." Gee, that makes everything ok, right? And we all believe him, right?

Yup. Context doesn't matter when it comes to Trump, after all. He's special.

Trump goes to war against government employees:
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) outlined on Tuesday conflicts initiated by Social Security in the wake of Trump’s orders:

SSA on July 9 “unilaterally implemented extensive changes to the contract that had previously been negotiated … The union attempted to negotiate with the agency but SSA managers walked away from the talks after just three days.”
“SSA has evicted union representatives from their offices and stripped them of their access to computers, phones, personnel files, and other tools that are vital to effective representation.”
“SSA reneged on the ground rules agreement” with the union and unilaterally imposed 21 provisions, including those allowing the agency to fire federal workers faster and “eliminate employees’ ability to file grievances on terminations, performance appraisals, or awards.”

President Trump lies :jaw-dropp

In other news water is wet and bears use arborial places for their toileting activities. [emoji57]

Yeah, I know!

As a small meerkat I had respect for my parents beaten into me, and I’m still vaguely shocked when people disrespect their parents by lying about them.

Well it seems that President Trump has wriggled off the hook again.

His "clarification" that he misspoke (or more likely was misquoted by the #FakeNews - despite it being clearly on tape) means that he never said that he trusted President Putin over his own intelligence services and that's enough for FoxNews and the GOP (his base never doubted him anyway).

Anyone mentioning it now is anti-American and putting politics before peace

It really is remarkable how he manages to do this and it requires the total compliance of a large and influential media network and the near total compliance of his party.

Remember we used to be outraged by the colour of the President's suit or what kind of mustard he used on his burger. These days a major thing can blow over in less than 24 hours.

States Sue IRS, Treasury To Strike Down SALT Cap Under New Tax Law
The complaint argues that those who drafted the Sixteenth Amendment understood that "the SALT deduction is essential to prevent the federal tax power from interfering with the States’ sovereign authority to make their own choices about whether and how much to invest in their own residents, businesses, infrastructure, and more—authority that is guaranteed by the Tenth Amendment and foundational principles of federalism." The SALT cap, the plaintiffs argue, disregards States’ rights and the "distinct and inviolable role in our federalist scheme." And, the complaint continues, "as many members of Congress transparently admitted, it deliberately seeks to compel certain States to reduce their public spending." That, the complaint argues, is unconstitutional.

Next, the Confederates will be asking for slaves to be returned, complaining about, what did they used to say, Sanctuary cities? Listen, folks, states' rights are for places white supremacy rules with an iron fist, and inhumane, hateful "Christianity" sucks the life out of babies in cages.

Zombie Bible, Booka Hicks, 1:1 Sinful people who betray whiteness should be hanged, sayeth the Lord.

"So many people at the higher ends of intelligence loved my press conference performance in Helsinki. Putin and I discussed many important subjects at our earlier meeting. We got along well which truly bothered many haters who wanted to see a boxing match. Big results will come!"
