Today wasn't collusion. It was beyond that.

It was another example of what Trump is truly guilty of.

As it says, not related to the campaign specifically. McConnell and/or Ryan, though, maybe. Might this have anything to do with McConnell's response to Obama on the general topic of Russian interference?

There's some (not unreasonable, it seems) speculation on Reddit that "U.S. Person 1" is Michael Keene, former president of the NRA: comment.

The affidavit for Maria Butina is nuts. From paragraph 31:

On October 4, 2016, U.S. Person 1 sent an email to an acquaintance. The email covered a number of topics. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) says he’s not sure whether he’s the congressman mentioned in Monday’s indictment of a Russian gun-rights activist for acting as an unregistered agent of the Kremlin — but he is sure that the charge against the woman is “bogus.”

The indictment of 29-year-old Mariia Butina notes that she had discussions with a prominent Russian official — believed to be Alexander Torshin — about his plans to “meet with a U.S. Congressman during a Congressional Delegation trip to Moscow in August 2015."

Rohrabacher unloaded on the indictment, which alleged clandestine efforts by Butina to set up a back channel between Russian and American political leaders, using the National Rifle Association as a conduit.

“It’s ridiculous. It’s stupid,” Rohrabacher said. “She’s the assistant of some guy who is the head of the bank and is a member of their Parliament. That’s what we call a spy? That shows you how bogus this whole thing is.”
“This is an attempt to undermine the president’s ability to have better relationships with Russia,” he added.

This for starters :

2/ Whether or not Mueller is the prosecuting authority in the charges against Butina means absolutely nothing for whether he was and is being kept apprised of the work being done to prosecute her *and* any information that may result from that prosecution. The second part is key.

3/ Butina has already cooperated with the government (by testifying before Congress) and has already *offered* to cooperate with the federal executive branch—the people prosecuting her—also. Which means we can expect she'll be giving information that *ends up in Mueller's hands*.

Rohrabacher and Issa appear to be beneficiaries of Russian money and laundered through the NRA is one way that's happening.
