Cont: The Trump Presidency VIII

I would have loved Morgan to have made some attempt to nail down the President...

“You’re certainly right that most people would probably have trouble describing the difference between “England”, “Great Britain” and “United Kingdom”. Perhaps you can clarify the difference for them?”

But again, it’s like trying to nail Jello to the wall. Trump’s ignorance on topics large and small are surpassed only by his ability to deflect from probing into the depth of that ignorance.

Also, Piers Morgan is a slimy, obsequious little ****.

As an aside/admission, I would have trouble with describing the precise difference. I do know that England is a country, so there’s that.

But to be fair, I’d probably know more if it wasn’t for all my time spent tweeting and on the golf course!

I challenge our resident Trumpers to find any interview where Trump talks knowledgeably about any subject. Trump is willfully ignorant because he thinks his instincts are all he needs, despite the fact that his history of business failures says otherwise.

Of course the Queen's opinion is the deeply uncontroversial "it's complicated" - exactly what the Queen does so well. Fine words, no content - just the sort of thing that Trump reads so much into (all of it flattering, of course).

Unfortunately the citizens of the UK aren’t allowed to know what she does say. It’s only very recently that it was revealed the number of bulls she gets to have input on. What we do know is that her political power is much more than the myth of her being apolitical would imply.

Into cattle, is she?:D

Trump called it brutal, not May. May didn't have to call it anything, it stands by itself. She didn't even have to reveal it at all in her reply. Saying stuff without revealing anything is her principal skill.

If his minders have to come out and escort him gently from the podium because he's repeating the same story for the third time there'll be no coming back from it.

You underestimate the willful blindness/stupidity of his base.

With respect, bollocks.

In the Piers Morgan interview, Trump doesn't seem very confident he will actually run again (despite Piers saying that this is 'official confirmation').
When Trump is about to do something, he usually projects a narrative of great victory and boasts about it.

Is there any doubt you’ll run again in 2020?’

‘Well you never know what happens with health and other things…’

‘You look fit.’

‘I feel good.’

‘I saw your menu for tonight, pretty healthy stuff... but 2020, are you going to run?’

‘Well I fully intend to. It seems like everybody wants me to.’

Do you see a Democrat who can possibly beat you?’ I asked.

‘No. I don’t see anybody. I know them all and I don’t see anybody.

‘So liberals could be facing not two more years of you but potentially six?’

‘They do not have the right candidate.

NYT: Asked during the CBS interview who he considered to be his biggest foe globally, he named the European Union, citing “what they do to us on trade.” Mr. Trump added: “Now you wouldn’t think of the European Union, but they’re a foe. Russia is a foe in certain respects. China is a foe economically, certainly a foe.”

So we have all three in one place for comparison, no more equivocating: former allies, known enemies, and fierce competitors. Trump goes for the back stab of a friend, like a good, slandering, modern Republican. Facts don't matter; harming the world for silver coin doesn't, either. The South has risen! Let's go pound some babies in a cage. Soon enough, we boys'll be able to drag 'em behind a pick-up, laik Gaud intenit.

President Pence would be way better than Trump. Most importantly, because his chances for re-election are less than zero.

Trump is only thinking in trade deficits and military support. In that case, the biggest 'bleed' is in the EU with a large trade deficit and lots of military spend to support NATO. China has the largest deficit by far of any country. Russia is not a trading partner of much significance (they are #30 on the list)

A better way to describe it is "Where Trump thinks America loses the most."

This was also in the Piers Morgan interview:

We would make a great deal with the United Kingdom because they have product that we like. I mean they have a lot of great product. They make phenomenal things, you know, and you have different names – you can say ‘England’, you can say ‘UK’, you can say ‘United Kingdom’ so many different – you know you have, you have so many different names – Great Britain,” … the fact is you make great product, you make great things. Even your farm product is so fantastic.

Can someone please put this into something that makes even a resemblance of sense? Perhaps someone who has experience in translating Trumpian. Sarah Sanders? The Mooch?

Despite my typo it's not.

Which did not turn out to be the bombshell it was painted as. What it neglects is that the Queen acts on advice when she exercises her powers, which actually makes those powers tools of the executive, not the monarch themselves.

We're not new to running a constitutional monarchy : we kinda wrote the book on it and worked out the kinks a long time ago.

Trump on the hacking:

JEFF GLOR: The Russians who were indicted, would you ask Putin to- to send them here?

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well I might. I hadn't thought of that. But I certainly, I'll be asking about it. But again, this was during the Obama administration. They were doing whatever it was during the Obama administration. And I heard that they were trying, or people were trying, to hack into the RNC too. The Republican National Committee. But we had much better defenses. I've been told that by a number of people. We had much better defenses, so they couldn't. I think the DNC should be ashamed of themselves for allowing themselves to be hacked. They had bad defenses and they were able to be hacked. But I heard they were trying to hack the Republicans too. But, and this may be wrong, but they had much stronger defenses.

Linky.

Sadly, I don't think he's wrong about that.
