You made a bull **** comparison. I called you on your bull **** comparison. That isn't an evasion. But your lack of any substantive response is, in fact, an evasion.

It's also projection.

It's almost as bad as demanding evidence claims while refusing to give evidence for claims..........

Generally speaking that's correct. There is nothing special about a thumb drive over other storage devices - to some extend it also depends on how it was formatted.

However, in both Mac and windows it is possible to add 'tags' to categorize files that stay with the document when it's copied. These tags can be searched too.

There are other ways of categorizing (I have no idea if they were in this case). The files names can be used to identify content, dates, category etc. Also files could be categorized into different directories - a whole structure if required.

It is also possible to have an index file. Human readable file that could have been manually or electronically created that identifies all the other files by location/file name, tag words, dates and possible some type of category code.

So there are many ways that the information was already categorized and that information would be copied with the files from it's source onto a thumb drive, it's not rocket science.

That was not what the claim was. First the made up claim was that it was categorized, which was false. So now the fall back is that it is on thumb drives, which automagically categorized the document dump (of course the lawyer never mentioned that during the hearing either, it is just another lie).

The facts is that the Mueller lawyer idiotically threatened to dump an extraordinary number of documents most of which are in Russian on the defense attorneys. The only thing more ridiculous than that were the false claims that the Russian language documents were categorized on thumb drives.

Possible, not mandatory or automatic. Nothing you describe is mandatory or automatic. And the earlier suggestions from others that the files are categorized merely because the interface can search them is laughable.
Are you serious? How do you guys think they got the information? As one massive blob? They're social media posts. Let's pretend, for just a moment, that they aren't automatically exported by whatever system/database the provider is using with that information on it. Let's pretend like when the posts are made they aren't instantly put into categories like username, time, date, etc. Hell, let's even pretend like on just the basic level you can't control+f and search for keywords or groups of letters together (in any language). I want one of you, hell anyone, give me a reasonable explanation on how, by what magic, is all this social media get recorded and shared? I'm so curious how that would even happen. I'll wait very patiently.

As far as Emily's cat goes, just because whoever you get your data from doesn't format it how you want it, doesn't mean it isn't searchable or categorized.

I have no idea. But the assertion that it has to be organized because it's on a thumb drive is moronic.
I didn't say organized. I said categorized. Also, by definition it is categorized on a thumb drive. Again, maybe not the way you want it, but it's categorized. It has to be. It literally *********** has to be. By at least a file extension and a name.

Anyway, all social media has a built in search feature for the site. This one even has an advanced search!!! What's truly moronic is thinking that they strip everything off of it during export and hand investigators some random, nameless "terabit" of data lol. A bunch of 0001.bmp files maybe? Lol, Christ.

You have to know what you are looking for. Are they text files, Image files etc. Is there a database? The idea we know how to find what we are looking for in a couple of terabytes of information without categories, and indexes etc. This could easily be like trying to find the proverbial pin in the haystack.

All good. They requested information from "social_media_01". Whoever that might be. Do people think that "social_media_01" is going to turn over just random files without using criteria to find it?

I mean, come on. I get that my initial post may have caused some confusion. I'll take full responsibility for it because, unlike many around here, I'll admit when I am confusing. Nothing I've said is wrong. Whether we want to argue it on a semantic level or a technical level.

Now so it's in no uncertain terms let me be very clear. Mueller and his team were prepared to turn over 2 "terabits" (lol) of data on a thumb drive. Of all the dumb things we have been asked to believe, the dumbest implication is that this information isn't in a searchable, useable format from whoever they got it from. Translated or not. Think of ways to find data on this forum, think of ways to find information on Facebook, Twitter, etc. That would be how you get it.

Where did this fantasy of it being on a thumb drive(s) originate, the lawyer said nothing about it nor did she claim it was organized or catagorized, and most of it is grossly irrelevant information that Mueller's team got from social media sites that is in Russian for ****'s sake.

It is the very definition of a document dump designed only to waste the other side's time and effort.

It is on a thumb drive! That makes it all better.

Hoo boy

Thumb drive, hard drive, it has to be on a drive of some form. It's being measured in storage space.

Do you have something that says it's irrelevant? I haven't read anything that says the defense had even looked at it yet, given the 90 day delay. How do you know it's irrelevant?

Read my previous post. Believe me or don't. You can always go back to posting irrelevant links to undocumented email servers like they mean anything at all. You're making claims that aren't proven, the same as you've accused me of doing. The only difference? At least my claims make sense in the technical world.

If Mueller requested information, or had a warrant, then the social media complanies would turn over data related to that request. This isn't tough.

Two terabytes of data is not that much data to comb through given current means.

On this board, with rare exception not applicable here, what is stated is the full extent of available information about other members.

That is not the case with Mueller. We also have access to his actions.

Its ok for you to use Meuller's actions as some sort of window into what he's doing, but we can't look to your cheeto fuhrer's actions as a window into what he's doing.

Gotcha.

Hypocrite much?

Two terabytes of information in Russian.

No problem!

How do you say hide needle in a field of haystacks in Russian?

This is what not missing the point looks like. Thank you.

Putin has caused so many Russian journalists and intellectuals to leave their country that there won't be a shortage of volunteers to sort through this dump in order to find the dead bodies.

Channeling a pedant (not that hard for me): Trump isn't the subject of this thread, Mueller is.

You made a bull **** comparison. I called you on your bull **** comparison.

It may well be, but what evidence or argument did you present that the comparison was BS? In typical Zig fashion, you have nothing other than your own personal belief that the comparison is BS and just want to present your beliefs as fact without the slightest evidence or argument in their favor.

Why not? What did they ask for specifically? How do you as a defense attorney know precisely what the prosecution was looking for? Very likely, it is organized by people and dates and that is it.

Searchable in what way? No, it's highly likely it's a database or a .csv file which you have to put into a database. Which is easily searchable. If you know what you are looking for. That's the problem. Now, add the difficulty of American lawyers deciphering Russian. Not an easy task.

You're correct of course, but I'm simply requesting that the standards for discussion be consistent on the board. Right now we have users that cry about one thing or another on one thread, and in the next thread do the exact same thing they're crying about on the other.

I'm requesting consistency over intellectual cowardice.

Because that would benefit absolutely no one in anyway and why would a tech company want to bog down an investigation?

What did they ask for specifically?

Dunno, I'm not part of the investigation. I would assume something other than "everything that happened between x and y dates".

How do you as a defense attorney know precisely what the prosecution was looking for?

Ask? Is there any reason at all Mueller wouldn't tell them? I can't imagine why he wouldn't. It also wouldn't be tough to get a tech guy to look at it.

Very likely, it is organized by people and dates and that is it.

Ok. I can't imagine why that would be true because it would require the people providing the data to go through extra steps of stripping the data of fields. At best I guess they'd claim it could give away trade secrets. I digress though, even if that's the case what else would you need? This isn't the only data he was going to provide, they said this was the beginning of the data he was to provide. If they're lawyers for a company, I'd assume they'd cross reference those dates and names with their employees and their records. That's not really a tough thing to do considering the technology we have available.

Searchable in what way? No, it's highly likely it's a database or a .csv file which you have to put into a database.

Ok, searchable in the way pretty much every single csv/database file is searchable? I haven't found one that isn't. It's comma separated into different fields. Which in this case we know it would have to contain at least 3 different fields: Date, Name, and the content of the post. How granular is needed?

Which is easily searchable. If you know what you are looking for. That's the problem. Now, add the difficulty of American lawyers deciphering Russian. Not an easy task.

It's data for discovery. You should know what you're looking for from a database that's csv or a database file. Is the implication that the prosecutor has to tell you what to do look for? Do they do that with other evidence? I'm a bit confused here.
