Arrest warrant issued for Tom DeLay

That is absolutely right. You are entitled to any biased, uninformed opinion you like. However, we are on a skeptic board and I would expect a higher standard.

I will wait until I actually get a look at the evidence. For the record, I do not consider his political affiliation as a smoking gun.

You can wait until you get to look at the evidence. OTOH, a grand jury has already looked at the evidence and brought an indictment. That is evidence there is a case against him.

Thus, the opinion is not baseless at all. Now, it can still be wrong (many GJ indictments end up that way), but to pretend that it isn't critical thinking to go with the GJ indictment is nonsense.

Besides, I don't really care if he is guilty or innocent, and that part is not political. The real good part of this whole thing is that good old republicans are running into the same type of massive scandals that they loved to pick on when Clinton was in office.

Louis Freeh didn't like Clinton because they spent too much time "investigating scandals." Of course, little came out of it, and even the big impeachment issue turned up not-guilty. The replicans loved when they could associate Clinton with any sort of scandal, regardless of whether he had anything to do with it or not. Now they are getting the tables turned. Amazing how they can cry foul at this point.

Your source is a newspaper owned by the Moonies.

I'm just saying.

And?

Does anyone have a link to what the Texas Congressional district map looked like after the 1990 census? A 1991 map. I hear it was a doozy, but I can't find it anywhere.

The Dems had control of the map for about 130 years. They gave themselves a majority on the map even after the state was clearly going Republican.

AFAIK, this is the current districting map.

Since the Moonies are nuts and major contrbutors to the Republican Party (look it up), I would consider anything they say on the subject to need serious corroboration.

In any case, do you really think it justified attempting to have the Democrats arrested?!?!?!?

The rules of the Texas Legislature provide for members who intentionally thwart a quorum to be arrested and escorted to the legislature.

Also, I think it's against Texas law to hide. It's almost certainly against Texas law to hide in Oklahoma.

OK, the second part isn't acutally accurate. But it should be. I mean, c'mon. A Texan hiding?

Let's say Party A has control of the state legislature for over a century. As time passes, the state voters begin to sway toward Party B. They even elect a Governor from Party B.

Now let's say that in order to hold onto their power, Party A begins to gerrymander the hell out of congressional districts.

But finally, Party B assumes it's rightful place as the majority in the state legislature, in accordance with the wishes of the voters of that state.

And then Party B begins to undo the gerrymandering put in place by Party A.

So Party A decides to prevent this from happening by running away so that a quorum cannot be called, as a last gasp dirty trick.

Yeah, I'd say drag their asses back where they belong and make them face the music.

Wow. Well, it would be interesting to see how you guys felt if it were Republicans being arrested. I would be just as outraged as I am now. But then, I have no party loyalty.

A Republican is being arrested, and he did not take advantage of Article 83.

Exactly the same way. Rule 5, Chapter A, Section 8 of the Rules and Prececents of the Texas House provides that "(a)ll absentees for whom no sufficient excuse is made may, by order of a majority of those present, be sent for and arrested, wherever they may be found, by the sergeant-at-arms or an officer appointed by the sergeant-at-arms for that purpose, and their attendance shall be secured and retained. The house shall determine on what conditions they shall be discharged." Break the rule, suffer the consequences. The miscreant members knew that -- that's why they had to run to Oklahoma. They knew that if they stayed in Texas the Rangers would come and get them and haul their asses to work.

It might surprise you to know that I am very much looking forward to the Republican Party facing the music. It has allowed itself to be taken over by people who are ruining it, and needs to be whipped back into shape.

I would like to see some non-elected people who call themselves "conservatives" get their comeuppance as well. A certain blonde female commentator springs to mind.

I am not a conservative by a long shot but I find it alittle sad that people are celebrating the arrest of a man simply because he is the member or a certain political party (at least that's the impression I'm getting).

I'm celebrating because he is a first class a$$hole and a phoney piece of crap.

The first thing I thought about after seeing Delay's mug shot ...

What, me worry?

I will wait to look at the evidence. I think that's good advice in any non-emergency situation.

The reaction of a grand jury is hardly that big of a deal. Their job is to determine if reasonable jury COULD find the defendant guilty. This is a very minimalist standard. Also, as you have said above, they may be wrong, you really can't tell until you see what they saw.

I would have thought he made enough money to afford a decent hair coloring job. It looks like he did it himself with the $6.99 stuff from Kmart.
