The Trump Presidency VII

Given that she hadn't held a press conference since the prior Monday, it could just be a quick vacation.

Not that I care. She merits all of the politeness of Bull Conner or George Wallace.

What about those who say these tactics play into the hands of Trump?

Don't recall any mention of this before...

The House just passed a farm bill, that changes the requirements for "food stamps", increasing work requirements for those receiving support. (However, unlike previous farm bills that received bipartisan support, this one was split along party line, with the democrats voting against it.)

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politi...-food-stamp-changes-narrowly-passes-the-house

Now, one problem I can see for the Trump administration: There are a lot of rural voters (many of whom supported Trump) that are going to be affected.

From: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...epublicans-would-hit-rural-poor-idUSKBN1JB13D
Of the 50 U.S. counties with the most SNAP-dependent populations, three-quarters are rural. About half of those backed Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

Now, I have no sympathy at all for a Trump voter who finds that his benefits have been cut. (After all, these people should have known what they were getting into when they voted for a racist orangutan who gave little in the way of coherent policy plans during the election.) But, if these rural Trump voters all of a sudden get their benefits cut, maybe that will make them less likely to support the republicans and Trump in the future.

Question: when was the last time the house did anything meaningful? Even when they pass something, it goes to tbe senate who writes the real bill that may or may not have any resemblance to the house version

One unanswered question is what was she doing there? This is a town of about 7,000, roughly four hours from Washington, and nowhere close to anyplace significant. It is known primarily as the home of two private colleges. Was she on her way somewhere else? Was she visiting somebody in the area? Did her party travel with government drivers and vehicles? Did she go there specifically because she expected trouble? Etc. This wasn't just dinner after work.

Maybe she was visiting friends and the restaurant has as an exceptional reputation?

That part is really none of our business.

Which would be plausible, except how likely is it those Trump voters will make the logical connection between those actions and their circumstances? How many will just listen and nod as Trump/FOX explains how its all those evil Democrats/immigrants fault things have gotten tougher for them? Trump supporters seem immune to reason and facts, if some of them become disenchanted that's great, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

The whole Shenandoah Valley is a "get away for the weekend " spot for the DC area.
I think implying there was some kind of conspiracy to provoke an incident is a bit much. In fact, it's a stupid as anything coming out of the Trump White House.
If she wanted to provoke an incident .there were much more likely places to do it in the DC Area.

What about those who say these tactics play into the hands of Trump?

I'd say they're like the white clergy who wrote to MLK Jr to be more patient when he was in jail. Or justice Taney resting assured that his Dred Scott decision would surely calm everything down. Or as an alternative, they are the exact same people who said "Oh calm down, he's not going to tear up families, there won't be white supremacists marching in the street, and look, he likes LGBT people!" about a year and a half ago, and who insist that terms like "racist" or "white supremacist" are insults, rather than a label for a viewpoint.

In other words, why should I believe them now, when they've been wrong, to great harm for others, for centuries now? What's changed?

Dude, it was a road trip, a getaway, a short vacation. Whatever.

You ever stop at a greasy spoon/diner on a road trip? You ever take a road trip?

Don't go all CT here... it was likely just a place to grab a bite. ;)

Side note... I really doubt it's as problematic in appearance as Donnie tries to paint it as. Though... I've never let that stop me in search of a good diner omelet or greasy burger. :D
(and I've never had food poisoning in my life, fingers crossed :) )

Specifically, disparaging a business for apparently disrespecting a customer based on moral grounds.

Conservatives need to fish or cut bait on whether they consider proprietors standing their moral ground to be heroic or what.

Businesses are only supposed to discriminate against gays not racists liars.

It's way more than a greasy spoon. It's a widely noted destination restaurant. She certainly wasn't there by chance.

Sure, public officials are entitled to private lives. But if her group went there with government cars, drivers and security -- which hasn't been reported, but would be entirely likely -- and when she complains about the experience on her official government account, it's no longer a private matter. We only know about this because she described it first. It doesn't have to get into CT just to wonder what our officials are up to.

"Congresswoman Maxine Waters, an extraordinarily low IQ person, has become, together with Nancy Pelosi, the Face of the Democrat Party. She has just called for harm to supporters, of which there are many, of the Make America Great Again movement. Be careful what you wish for Max!"

IS that threat of violence from the President of the USA to a political opponent?

Trump Tweets

"Such a difference in the media coverage of the same immigration policies between the Obama Administration and ours. Actually, we have done a far better job in that our facilities are cleaner and better run than were the facilities under Obama. Fake News is working overtime!"

"Hiring manythousands of judges, and going through a long and complicated legal process, is not the way to go - will always be disfunctional. People must simply be stopped at the Border and told they cannot come into the U.S. illegally. Children brought back to their country......"

"....If this is done, illegal immigration will be stopped in it’s tracks - and at very little, by comparison, cost. This is the only real answer - and we must continue to BUILD THE WALL!"

It sure sounds like it, especially since Waters did NOT call for "harm" to Trumpers.

So, these concentration camps are dirty (new info) and poorly run (we knew that). We should hire judges rather than just immediately deporting people at this idiot's sayso (obvious).

And yeah, his wall is pointless theatrics. Again, we knew that.

Why am I surprised, he did it all the time on the campaign trail

"I'd like to punch him in the face."

"Knock the crap out of them."

"Maybe he should have been roughed up."

"Try not to hurt him. If you do, I'll defend you in court, don't worry about it."

"Knock the crap out of them, I promise you, I will pay for the legal fees"

I can't open their site on my crappy mobile & Chrome... too much traffic. No surprise. And their Yelp page is a mess... lots of cleanup to do before they stop monitoring the comments.

I've never heard of the joint. Though I have eaten in many roadside establishments... I was just using greasy spoon/diner as a generalization. I shouldn't have... I don't have Sarah's budget. :D

She certainly wasn't there by chance.

This is the odd part.
You're intimating something. I have no idea what.
Can you be explicit?

(sorry for the extra linefeeds... it's a TapaCrap bug... I mean feature. :( )
