The Trump Presidency VII

Lots of similarities.

It sure isn’t conservatism.

It's not similar to either. But neither is Trump. You really need to educate yourself Logger. George Will is a conservative. Ronald Reagan was a conservative. So was Barry Goldwater and John McCain. Trump is not. He is a thug who is tearing at the fabric of the republic. Your idea of one party rule is called autocracy. Trump is far closer to portraying typical national socialist ambitions than anything else.

Huh, so now Authoritarian worshippers can call themselves ‘Small Government Conservatives’? News to me.

Can’t make this stuff up!

Does anyone here want to make a logical argument?

I think it's true that Trump isn't a conservative, in the usual sense of the term. Conservatives, for instance, tend to be in favor of free trade, which Trump despises.

The GOP is no longer a conservative party, as I understand the term. It is a Trump party, and so more the pity for real conservatives. And for the nation, since it would be good to have a conservative party.

Whatever helps you stay in your reality.

You do realize you rail against Trump and republicans as much as I rail against liberals? Lol just can’t make this stuff up!

And another thing, again, conservatism doesn’t want anything to with mixing government, industry or business. That is the left, so sad!

Again, you don't know what your talking about. I have NEVER suggested one party rule. I have NEVER thought silencing opposition is a good idea. I have a BS from the Henry M.Jackson School of International Relations. My thesis in college was on how it could happen here detailing the propaganda techniques of Goebbels and Leni Riefenstahl. I worked as an intern for Republican Congressmen Rod Chandler. I also worked for the Washington State Democratic Party. I then spent thirty years selling computer technology.

And mixing government and business was only one aspect of fascism in the way Mussolini imagined it. Authoritarian and extreme nationalism are actually more essential to the definition. Trump's wrapping himself in the flag and demonizing foreigners is more in tune to the definition.

No, it's not. The only way to get rid of him is for the Democrats to increase their voter base and get people who don't normally vote to go to the ballot. They need to do this while fighting tooth and nail against all GOP attempts to rig the election by throwing people off the voter rolls and gerrymandering the districts. You guys have one chance at this. There are more good people in the US than Trumpists, but the Trumpists get to make the rules right now.
That made me think about how generally parliamentary democracies have a shadow opposition for most of the senior positions, including the leadership.

Would I be wrong to say that there is no single publicly recognizable leadership figure representing the democrats that some of the population could get behind. Someone who is directly opposite Trump who is continuously and directly criticizing Trumps policies.

Seems the USA system relies on the media and other various senior democrats, but not a single personality that could act as Trumps nemesis.

One guy running everything is about as small as you can get.

The fact that a few people want that one guy to be trump is frightening. They could at least choose someone sane.

How much smaller is Trump's government compared to previous governments?

You’re the one constantly talking about the slippery slope. And yes, those countries lean heavily into socialism. It would literally be impossible for this country to turn fascist, that is next level stuff there. Thanks!

Clueless.

And show where I have ever used the term 'slippery slope'. Please feel free to search my posts for that term. And btw, Democratic socialism isn't on that slippery slope but autocratic rule is.

Lol, next level.

It’s used to be a wonderful patriotic act to be proud of your flag. It still is to real Americans. He isn’t demonizing foreigners, he thinks other countries have been taking advantage of us and they clearly have.

You deny implying Trump is going to turn the country into a fascist country?

That is hilarious you’d think democrat socialism isn’t on that slope and certainly a total surprise.

You actively oppose Trumps tariffs and trade barriers then. Good to hear, but that seems to confirm that Trump is not a conservative. We know he is not a liberal so what does that leave? Fascist? Marxist? Surely not Nazi? Makes a person wonder why you are so supportive of a person whose politics do not align with your own *small government conservatism*.

I was thinking more in terms of how much gushing was done over the use of MRAPs during the Fergeson demonstrations in the associated threads. Combine that with a passionate defense of police grossly abusing their authority.

Just does not strike me as 'Small Government Conservative'. Its pure Authoritarianism.

That must be because the US is so weak. Not a great country at all, and with no hope of any changes under Trump. The world has passed you by. You are to be pitied.

Oh yeah, and laughed at.

Liberals, LOL. Can't live with them, can't shoot them. Well, except for Trump on 5th Ave. LOLZ to the MAX!!11

It being the Trump Party is exactly the reason his popularity won't drop with each boneheaded, wrong-hearted move. He is fully representative of his constituency: he thinks as they do, so they will see no wrong with him.

No. But Trump walks and talks like a dictator when he cries 'fake news' and praises dictators. He might as well have been saying 'Lugenpresse'. Trump was the one in the last two weeks who said he would like it if people treated him like Kim's people treated him. Never mind that Kim executed others in his family and anyone with the temerity to question him. You'd snap to if your life depended on it.

It is Trump who is sucking up to Putin and dissing our allies. It is Trump who is constantly talking about ending the Mueller investigation and crying witch hunt.

It is Trump that called Mexicans rapists, drug dealers, animals and an infestation. I have read many of Hitler's speeches and if you replace Jew with Mexican or immigrant, they would sound similar.

What an odd statement. If that showed up as a trump tweet nobody would doubt it was him. I am beginning to wonder........nah, he would never select *logger* as a handle.

We really should split this off into another thread.

Trump imposing tariffs is exactly what he is charged with as president. Hillary and Obama taking over healthcare would be a better analogy. He’s actually in the middle politically but to you he’s a fascist.

Not even close to reality.
