I find plenty of opinions in the National Review that are critical of Trump. On both this issue and North Korea. Trump's hands are not tied on this. It is happening as a result of a recent policy change.

If you invoke every law and justification and thread the needle very carefully, you can conclude Trump and Sessions are within their rights. But it's a discretionary thing. Congress could probably fix it, but guess who *can't* fix it: Democrats. And when Trump will lie about such a simple thing, is there any reason not to believe he is deliberately using the most cruel strategy possible?

I only hope that voters in Republican districts are willing to vote against lawmakers who are afraid to take a stand, lawmakers that know if they do take a stand they will provoke vicious hatred from Internet trolls who aren't even Americans. Social media will be manipulated in some cases by people in various regimes who will stir up hatred in order to harm the United States. We know cyberspace has been weaponized. Don't complacently assume that these folks are your friends because they like Donald Trump.

You appear, as does Trump, to have no concept of love between a parent and child. So you have no concept of the issues that separation causes. Anyone who understands the parent/child bond would have no need to ask for "proof".

That is what happens when people are arrested. Do you want them to put the children in with the general population behind bars? Then you would be screaming child abuse again. You also don’t seem to understand many of these children are accompanied by smugglers or adults posing as their parents.

You simply don’t have a clue and aren’t interested in the facts.

They can be processed without being extorted into guilty pleas, even if they are seeking asylum. Let them plead guilty, fingerprint them, but allow compassionate release. If they turn up again, boom, they have a prior arrest. The deterrent can work pretty well even without the gratuitous cruelty. For the most part these aren't people who want to live on the lam their entire lives. They're just trying to stay alive.

Well logger, people aren't being held without bail on suspicion of misdemeanors. And if misdemeanors are separating children from parents, guess what? That's not really great for our criminal justice system. The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in the world. All this while crime - and illegal immigration - are going *down*.

So is obstruction of justice. You can't justify these actions logger. Trump is proving once again that he is a NAZI Devoid of human compassion. I hope to your God that when the hammer comes down on Trump he gets to know first hand what it is liked to be imprisoned. Because I can't think of any human being more deserving of prison than Trump.

Right. They plead guilty to a misdemeanor and are released on their own recognizance. On probation, perhaps with a fine owed, perhaps with 30 days of jail in their futures. It is still not "catch and release." They have a conviction and are fingerprinted. It's pretty tough, actually.

In the meantime it's possible that someone with a genuine asylum case has been extorted into pleading guilty of a misdemeanor.

Charging everyone with a misdemeanor is new, logger. Let's phase that in first, then see how many we lose, then revisit the policy if need be. We're a great country, we can afford to do that. Remember, illegal immigration is already falling (except for a recent seasonal spike, which DHS is dishonestly portraying as "previous levels."
