Squeegee Beckenheim responses did a pretty good job of explaining the situation I think. This is a completely made up scandal to provide cover for Trump. It is deeply cynical. Maligning people in the FBI that are doing their job for your narrow political purposes is disgusting. It seems that it is something that even rabid partisans like Trey Gowdy were not willing to do. He surprised me there. Apparently there is a distinction between Trey Gowdy and Devin Nunes on this. Right now we don't know if there are any limits on Nunes's willingness to lie and cheat for Trump. It appears that Trey Gowdy has limits.


I saw some of the Fox News reaction to what Trey Gowdy had to say. You might think that somebody giving them information about secret documents that they don't have access to would make them reconsider their ranting for Trump on this issue. Uh no. It made them reconsider their respect for Gowdy.

The FBI has ********** up time and time again, and not just on political issues. It's a horrid mix of rottenness and incompetence. From Wacco to the anthrax investigation to the olympic park bombing to Nikolas Cruz to colluding with the Boston mob, the FBI has earned every little bit of criticism thrown its way. I mean, for ****'s sake, it is their policy to not record witness interviews. How the hell is that justified in this day and age?

Then you don't understand Gowdy. He is an establishment creature, particularly of law enforcement. Why would it surprise you that a former prosecutor would back the FBI rather than a president he didn't even back in the primaries?

I looked at the Judicial Watch page. The documents not labeled classified that Comey disagreed with are mostly marked "confidential":

One of the emails is marked secret based on

1.4(c) intelligence activities, sources, or methods, or cryptology;

I'm sure there's room for disagreement as to what would be damaging to the US.

I'm not impressed. As for criminal, neither the IG nor Comey agree with you. Why should anyone take any unprofessional partisan opinion?
