The Trump Presidency VII

I still do not understand how this can possibly be the Democrats' fault.

Because if the Democrats (and Republicans, but shhh) had agreed to fund the Wall (which was supposed to be funded by Mexico, but shhh), then there would be no more illegal immigration and the mandate to separate families (that was put in place by the current administration, but shhh) wouldn't have to be implemented.

*Shakes fist*

Demmmmmms!

You forgot the part about "restricting legal immigration to mostly-white countries as much as possible". But aside from that, you're basically correct.

Neither claiming asylum and/or being brown is illegal.

Maybe if you put the people who keep hiring illegal immigrants into tent camps that might be more effective? Of course a lot of those Republican supporters who bitch and whine about immigrant so loudly would probably wind up living under canvas.

As would Trump...

This 'tent city' thing, is it intended to concentrate all those seeking to cross the border in to one camp?

Oh no, it's much worse than that.

Because there's this new policy of separating immigrant children from their parents, the authorities are running out of places to put the kids. So they're looking at sites where they can build tent cities to house up to 5,000 children who are without their parents at a time.

Is that so? The current tent in the news is intended to hold only a few hundred, if I heard NPR correctly.

I posted this article in this thread 3 days ago: http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/white-house/article213026379.html

The Department of Health and Human Services will visit Fort Bliss, a sprawling Army base near El Paso in the coming weeks to look at a parcel of land where the administration is considering building a tent city to hold between 1,000 and 5,000 children, according to U.S. officials and other sources familiar with the plans.

I think perhaps the disparity is between what's happening immediately, and what's going to happen. This story is from today: https://www.star-telegram.com/news/state/texas/article213255079.html

The Tornillo site will take in 360 children in the coming days and expand from there, according to the department spokesperson.

So 360 now, but will then "expand from there".

On the good news front, Trumps attempt at stifling CNN failed.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/12/opinion/att-cnn-time-warner-antitrust.html

The anti trust lawyers at the DoJ didn't just lose, they got spanked. You may remember that Trump said he would block the merger as a candidate but then claimed to have nothing to do with the DoJ trying to stop it.

When Trump fails the nation succeeds.

Trump tweets

"Democrats can fix their forced family breakup at the Border by working with Republicans on new legislation, for a change! This is why we need more Republicans elected in November. Democrats are good at only three things, High Taxes, High Crime and Obstruction. Sad!"

"My supporters are the smartest, strongest, most hard working and most loyal that we have seen in our countries history. It is a beautiful thing to watch as we win elections and gather support from all over the country. As we get stronger, so does our country. Best numbers ever!"

So now family integrity is a political hostage?

Never heard of a pilot program?

Not to mention, if they only needed space for a few hundred more, you don't think they could have found that space? What do you think the tents are for?
