The Trump Presidency VII

Lol, outright craziness? Now that is hilarious. You realize no one cares?

Actually, anyone who cares about basic principles of good government cares. And no other president, left or right, has behaved like this.

You can’t make that claim about a few papers getting lost or Torn up. In any other administration, this wouldn’t even be news.

It was roaring because he left. There isn’t very much you can point to that Obama even did to help the economy.

There is a hell of a lot I can point to. And virtually nothing you can point to that this moment of moderate prosperity is the result of Donald Trump. The economy doesn't turn on a dime. It's more like a huge supertanker. Maybe two years in we will begin to see the fruits of Trump's policies.

I disagree, it certainly did turn quickly and much of it is due to confidence in Trump and a lot of regulations going away.

I can totally see (goofball) William Shatner being elected President now. Two years ago I would have thought that highly unlikely.

Being born in Canada and a Canadian (but not U.S.) citizen would certainly be a barrier to likelihood.

But aside from that he would undoubtedly be an improvement over Trump, no matter how goofy he is.

I can see how you would think that. And where did you study economics?

And it didn't turn quickly. It continued to improve slightly.

Protecting a local industry from a foreign one that is absurdly subsidized so that they don't dump on our market is the exact opposite of stupid.

You would think that Americans would understand that as the Boston Tea Party was started for exactly that reason.

Some of them might understand that Boston wasn't in a foreign country at the time.

Which makes the comparison a bit flawed.

In a way you are right, though. The British were treating their American colonies like a foreign country ... so that's what they ended up with.

Actually, did you know that job growth actually SLOWED by around 12% once Trump took over?

And the trade deficit went up by 11%.

And the number of people on food stamps went up by 3 million people.

And the big change to regulations that were supposed to get the coal mining jobs back? After passing a law that will allow coal companies to potentially pollute drinking water, only 500 coal mining jobs were created.

Hmmm.... slower job growth, more people needing food stamps, bigger trade deficit.... Doesn't sound like getting rid of those regulations did all that much now, does it.

Of course you could point to Trump's stock market success (up 25.6% since early Feb 2018). Of course, that's actually lower than Obama's increase of 25.8% at the same time of his presidency.

"Fair Trade is now to be called Fool Trade if it is not Reciprocal. According to a Canada release, they make almost 100 Billion Dollars in Trade with U.S. (guess they were bragging and got caught!). Minimum is 17B. Tax Dairy from us at 270%. Then Justin acts hurt when called out!"

"Why should I, as President of the United States, allow countries to continue to make Massive Trade Surpluses, as they have for decades, while our Farmers, Workers & Taxpayers have such a big and unfair price to pay? Not fair to the PEOPLE of America! $800 Billion Trade Deficit..."

"....And add to that the fact that the U.S. pays close to the entire cost of NATO-protecting many of these same countries that rip us off on Trade (they pay only a fraction of the cost-and laugh!). The European Union had a $151 Billion Surplus-should pay much more for Military!"

Such a simple mind.

Under Obama the U.S. had:
- 75 straight months of job growth (a total of 17 million more jobs existed at the end of his term than the beginning)
- 92 months of bull markets for stocks
- The number of people without health care dropped by roughly 15 million (and premiums rose more slowly on average)
- Average wages rose 4% after inflation
- The poverty rate went down by 0.5%
- The violent crime rate is down 16%
- One Dead Bin Laden

Lol
I keep asking and you still can't point to a single good thing Obama did?
Typical of your side.

1. Rescued the US Economy.
Signed the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in 2009 to spur economic growth amid the most severe downturn since the Great Depression. As of October 2016, the economy had added 15.5 million new jobs since early 2010 and set a record with seventy-three straight months of private-sector job growth. The unemployment rate, which hit a sustained peak of about 10 percent in 2009, has dropped to 4.6 percent as of November 2016.

Can you imagine the moron Trump dealing with that?

2. Signed The Affordable Care Act.
After five presidents over the course of a century failed to create universal health insurance, signed the Affordable Care Act in 2010. More than twenty million Americans have gained coverage since the passage of the law, which provides subsidies for Americans to buy coverage, expands Medicaid eligibility, and prohibits insurers from denying coverage to people with preexisting conditions. The uninsured rate has dropped from 16 percent in 2010 to 9 percent in 2015. The law also mandates free preventive care, allows young people to stay on their parents’ policies up to age twenty-six, and imposes a ban on annual and lifetime caps on benefits.

How many will lose their health care insurance under Trump?

3. Repealed Don't ask, don't tell.

4. Signed both Dodd Frank and the Consumer Protection Act.

5. Got Osama Bin Laden

6. Ended the War in Iraq

7. Turned around the US Auto Industry when Republicans wanted bankruptcy.

8 Normalized relations with Cuba

9.Kicked Banks Out of Federal Student Loan Program, Expanded Pell Grant Funding

10. Passed Fair Sentencing Act

There are lots more including improving US image abroad and having pretty much no scandals during his administration.

If his rationale for sanctions is "a healthy balance sheet" (as he said in reference to a possible tariff on autos) to finance national security then:
* Trade only helps indirectly, in that increased sales mean more tax revenue for military spending
* So WTF with a new $1.5 T in voluntary deficit through tax reduction?

Liar and Bully in Chief, quite simply following a mish-mash of populism and rich giveaways. The GOP, in showing the "true colors" of "true Americans," is giving the lie to American exceptionalism.

Lol

As he continues to erase what your side accomplished.

...and this statement by the Hewer of Wood basically encapsulates the problem with US politics currently. It's all about points scoring, and who gives an actual **** about the American public.

We have the same issue down here in my sh!thole country, where the political theme is party before state. It's polarising, vindictive and destructive. I'm seeing so many political parallels currently that I'm fairly comfortable in stating that Trump is just another African dictator, albeit on the wrong continent.

It's going to take years for the US to recover from this orange-splashed wrecking ball.

I think Tofu's point is that you can't post a single thing Obama has done that is good, instead "your side" makes huge lists of things that he has done that was good for the country.....;)
