The difference between Bee's comment and Barr's (or Maher's and Barr's) is so obvious that the political right suffers from moral blindness. That was when most of them actually were Republicans - but the ones claiming that name for the last almost 40 years have not been - they have been republickers since then.

It rankled because there are moms in detention centers who not only cannot snuggle with their sons but who don't even know where their sons are, 'cuz 'Vankie's daddy's dementors seem to have misplaced fifteen hundred of them.

It's the tone deaf thing, again. And you know it. But we're going to award another 11 points to Hufflepuff for Valiant Effort to Virtue Signal the Champion Virtue Signalers of the Left.

No, not all of them. Just the one's who have made jokes that are just as destructive to our social fabric and just as likely to cause long term harm as the one that Rosanne made.
 
Samantha Bee used a dirty word. The ladies who lunch probably all had attacks of the vapors and she won't be winning the Etiquette Award from the DAR, but it was a dirty word, normally considered shocking and in poor taste.

Roseanne Barr used modified racial epithets.

I'm failing to see any equivocation, other than the traditional "useful distraction" that the pearl-clutchers on the right manufacture at opportune moments.

Or...maybe she thought in retrospect "That was mean and it also wasn't a good joke." Comedians sometimes do this. Her central point is still correct, the joke about Ivanka dressing up to seduce her father is crude but somewhat funny (it's a bit too obvious to be comedy gold), and there's little point in trying to be nice to MAGAts when they're defined solely by rage at the idea of being equal to women/nonwhite people/LGB T people.

But like the joke, I'm stating the obvious here...

Barr would receive similar benefit of the doubt, except for her long history of Alex Jones-esque bigotry and conspiratorial thinking.

What makes Trump using the c word rather frequently and all his followers at his rallies with tee shirts calling Clinton the c word any less destructive to our social fabric?

People keep claiming this. We're slagging off Ivanka Trump for her complicity and her lies. She parked her bony ass in the White House. She's the one who's been telling everyone about her influence and how she's going to use it for good. She made herself a political animal and she's being called on HER hypocrisy and tone deafness.

The people you're addressing have no trouble whatsoever dissing Donald J. Trump. Lord knows, it's like shooting fish in a barrel. But Ivanka's sanctitude was brought up by Trumpistas looking to throw a little whataboutism as a distraction.

Do you agree with them that Samantha Bee's use of a forbidden dirty word is equal to Roseanne Barr's racist behavior. If you do, there's no point in having this conversation. They are not the same thing.
