Roseanne Barr off the air

The horror... the horror...

It's this part you intentionally snipped out..."she's said nothing at all about removing children from immigrants crossing the border" that's horrible.

Well, yeah. Because that's not the absurd part. The absurd part is this notion that taking a picture of her and her kid being happy is somehow objectionable. It isn't. It isn't even made objectionable by something else objectionable.

But everything has to be cranked up to 11 if it involves Trump. So yes, I'm going to mock that sort of nonsense, because it's absurd.

Quote from the article

ABC does not produce or own the show.

So? ABC canceled it. Their decision is what has had economic impact on everyone associated with it. And ABC has been the source of all information about the cancellation. It's not unreasonable to expect them to respond to an inquiry, even if just to say "That's a matter for the producers and their employees."

I think it is unreasonable to expect them to respond to an inquiry.

I also won't answer any of your questions on my decision to stop shopping at store X regarding what it means for store X's employees.

Is it? Really? Where do I say that?!
What's the relevance of the fact that White people bear a greater resemblance to apes than black people do? You must've had some reason for pointing that out and in today's diverse multicultural post-racial milieu, everything is racial.

Is it?!!! That is a very impressive interpretation because I didn't know about Bill Maher's comparisons of Trump and an orangutan. Was it a particular orangutan or just any old orangutan? And where did I say anything about when or why people should lose their jobs???
Bill Maher's hate filled screeds comparing the democratically elected leader of the free world to an orangutan has been surpassed by Samantha Bee calling Ivanka a feckless **** and advising her that she should use her sexuality to influence her father's immigration policies in pure offensiveness.

There's a reason she added that in. Trump has a history of saying pervy things about Ivanka (which is part of his "charm" for his supporters, I guess?).

He also has a history of using the c-word and bragging about grabbing women by the pussy and getting away with it because he was a celebrity.

I don't think that Bill Maher, Roseanne or Sam Bee will be able to top that, but, hey, he's the president now so he's pardoned for anything he'll ever say or do, right?!

Captain Howdy, you may not have noticed, but when I pointed out features of white people's anatomy that are closer to those of apes than black people's are, it followed a number of posts about the skin color of gorillas. That you are offended by my comparisons really can't be helped. Try to remember them the next time you see African Americans compared with apes ...

Because nothing is worse than a mother taking a picture with her child. #whitewomen, amirite?

Because you can't accept the real issue and address it, instead you have to cherry pick half of the picture as if we don't know what the other half of the equation is.

Earth to Ziggy, you're not fooling anyone.

The right wing is going after all their satiric comedian critics. Snowflakes can't handle the truth.

The point is that she is demonstrating to the world what a loving Mom she is -- in a staged photo released to the media -- while other children are literally being wrenched from their mothers' arms by government agents under her father's orders. She is an official senior advisor to the President, not just the daughter of a real estate huckster, and she shares responsibility for his policies and their consequences.

"Whatever it is that Rosanne tweeted": Don't you know what she tweeted, or are you just pretending?
Now, I know for a fact that I've haven't uttered a single syllable stating that Roseanne should (or shouldn't) lose her job, but if I had to consider it seriously - which is difficult for me since I have absolutely nothing to do with decisions like that - it would be something like this:

If it is actually true that her behavior - on Twitter and elsewhere - is due to damage of her pre-frontal cortex combined with her use of Ambien, I have to admit that I've have no experience with Ambien at all, but I once met a woman with that kind of brain damage. I'll call her X. It was on a trip abroad with a group of about 10 Danes, lasting two weeks, which made it difficult to avoid her, which most of us would probably have tried to do under other circumstances. X was 'in your face' all the time, didn't understand hints at all, extremely selfish and focused only on satisfying her own needs. The woman who had to share a room with X was desperate to get away from her. None of us had any previous knowledge of X, but she had told us that when the two weeks were up, she would be joined by a friend, and they would then travel for two weeks on their own before going back to Denmark.
We were all extremely curious about what kind of person could put up with X and spend time with her of her own volition. When she showed up, she turned out to be extremely easy-going, balanced and calm, and she had obviously learned to tackle X in a way that the rest of us couldn't. For instance, one hour before they were to leave, X stated that she wanted to do something that would postpone their departure for at least a couple of hours. She had behaved in a similar manner with the rest of us, which always made us extremely upset: 'Why the hell can't she accept what we've already agreed to do?' But the point was that X actually couldn't.
Her friend, however, didn't get angry at all. Instead, she remained very calm and told her: "Well, you can do that, of course, but you know that if you do that, I will have left when you return."
And X immediately understood. There was no argument at all! 'If I insist on doing this, it has consequences that I'm not interested in so I won't do it.'
At that point, we were all aware of the mistakes we had made when dealing with X as if she were a normal person with normal empathy and able to respond to the subtle signals that most human interaction is based on.

However, I wouldn't know how to handle a woman like Roseanne. In the case in point, a lot of legalities enter into the picture. She would probably be doing much better if she had some kind of guardian that she had to report to before carrying out any kind of decisions. She would probably also be much better off without a twitter account. (Apparently her children tried to make her stop tweeting.)
But I can see why a broadcasting company decides that it is easier to solve the problem by getting rid of her.

By the way, I enjoyed the show back in the eighties. It was refreshing in comparison to the always glib and perfect Cosby world. I haven't watched the new season.

Rosanne's apology for her tweet and blaming it on ambien and brain damage is truly pathetic. She could've smoothed this over with a Bill Maheresque explanation such as pointing out that comparing Valerie Jarrett to an ape isn't offensive because Valerie Jarrett is indeed an ape. The twitter outrage machine accepted that from Bill Maher so they would've done the same for Roseanne.

She could also explain that she wasn't comparing Valerie Jarrett to an ape. She was comparing a specific physical feature of Valerie Jarrett, like her nose or her lips, to the nose or the lips of an ape. You know, like the way Bill Maher wasn't offensive because he was comparing Trump's hair to the hair of orangutan.

Or she could simply state that Black people need to gain confidence and self respect so they're not offended every time a Jew says something mean about them on twitter.

By the way, I never liked her show back in the day. Her voice bugs me. I saw part of the season finale a few weeks ago and was not impressed. Even though the new Rosanne brought in that little black kid to make show all multiculti, even though she apologized for her tweet, and even though her voice still bugs me, when I go to vote next Tuesday I'm going to write-in her name for governor on the ballot.

Maher said that in a segment which included some very salient points you conveniently failed to mention.

And that segment - in a irony almost certainly lost on you - was called "Explaining Jokes to Idiots".

You forgot her attempt to say "I thought she was white"

Honestly I'm surprised she didn't hurry and scream the most obvious excuse "it wasn't me, I was hacked"

BTW, there's also a difference between dissing someone on their looks/ethnicity and dissing them for their actions.

This is still nonsense. Whatever your problems with Trump's policies, and her role in them, that must be able to stand independent of this picture. And you should be able to criticize it independent of the picture. There's nothing actually wrong with the picture, so why would the picture piss people off?

Because Trump. That's the full extent of the actual reasoning here.
