Roseanne Barr off the air

Is this ape from The Planet a black or a negro or a colored or an African-American?

Is this former First Lady of the United States a black woman or an ape? Because she was called an ape (and many variations thereof) repeatedly by right-wing racists during her years living in The White House.

Context matters - all of the context.

Looks more like a jackass to me.

Sorry.

Is that racist?

This might be an example of the everyday racism that white people may face. Being accused of being a racist.

Always guilty until proven innocent and you won't be proven innocent. Just be quiet and take the lashes.
When someone plays the same apologist game over and over again, at some point they've decided to come out. So, in a sense, congratulations are in order. You're not hiding anymore. There's a level on which I respect that.

I don't want to add kindling to yet another wonderful discussion of race relations in America but... Roseanne has been a full on functionally insane basketcase since the first run of her show. I mean after she's spend the last few months attacking school shooting victims for being crisis actors and ranting about the secret pedophile ring shadow government running everything... yeah racism that's the line. Sure let's go with that.

It's like that incident we talked about on this board a while back where the guy on the airplane punched the baby and hurled racial epitaphs at the baby's mother his lawyer went on TV to basically saw "Hey now wait a minute, my client might be a baby puncher but he definitely isn't a racist baby puncher!"

Personally, I don't actually think of her as a black woman or an ape.

My first thought is hottie. I'll be honest with you. I'm a white man who isn't racist. Michelle is a smart and gorgeous woman and that's like some kind of drug for me. Wait, she's black? Who frikkin' cares?

Somebody called her an ape? I don't have time for that stupidity. Did the person who called her an ape lose their job? Anyway, whatever. How did Barack get so lucky with her? Does she like nerdy guys? I wish I was him. Is it racist to call him nerdy?

You are the one who decides if it's racist for me to call him a lucky nerd.

Critical thinking == racism.

So much for the ISF brand. James Randi may have been right about this forum after all.

Comedian makes racial joke, loses job. Oversensitive douchebag liberals complain, TV network caves.

People: just don't think you are making strides in equality and racism. You are not changing the way people think, you are merely silencing them. Keep sticking your heads in the sand and someone's bound to come along and kick your exposed ass back into reality.

War On Racism = War On Drugs = War On Terror = War On Poverty = Just Say No. Accomplishing nothing never felt so righteous!

Remind me, none of this matters except for the people who complain?

BTW, War on Terror and Just Say No are GOP issues.

My avatar is a Bigfoot created by a Bigfoot believer using Photoshop. I believe that it has nothing to do with black people.
Bigfoot? Oh.

I never thought you thought your avatar had anything to do with black people. I thought it was a gorilla and that if you knew about the great apes you would likely have known the history of blacks being called monkeys.

Fair enough. I'm sure her intended audience of racists with double-digit IQs got some nice guffaws out of it.

It's truly a terrible joke even on that level, though. It lacks specificity and thus fails since an organization cannot conceive a child with a movie. Even a racist on Ambien should know to leave that as an unsent draft.
It's a terrible joke, but not because movies and organizations can't mate. Plausibility isn't required for humor.

Decades can't call and ask for hairstyles back, but David Spade used to be considered funny.

I know a lot about the great apes. The avatar image is very obviously not a gorilla. I think that the guy probably used a gorilla image or parts of one to make an original Photoshop thing that people might say looks like the Bigfoot they saw or looks like a Bigfoot might look like. I wear that avatar as a satire of the ridiculous nature of Bigfoot fantasy belief.

I almost forgot. You were making a point about pointing out my avatar. What was it again?

Not odd at all. I give Trump the same pass I give Maher et al. I'm not the one trying to defend a double standard, here.

No, you're just the one here pedalling a lame and nonsensical right wing talking point.

There is no double standard.

Saying a mean thing about somebody doesn't equate to bigotry.

I can't recall when that was.

Are we still in the phase where we pretend to not know the history of a well-known racist remark? I thought there was a 24-hour limit on that sort of thing.

We're in this new phase where every mean or insulting thing ever said is now bigotry and exactly the same as racism and it's a double standard, no fair, boo hoo.

Roseanne, ain't left or right. She's been sucked into the space where the ultra left and ultra right meet, the Ultra L/R Vortex- think of it as sort of an Ultra Looney Tunes Plasma. Where left/right ideas completely disassociate, collide, reassemble, collide again, pick up a free radical and gain enough energy to momentarily escape the vortex, before losing energy and spiraling back in to pick up yet another free radical and start the process all over again.

Nice rant, other than it being based on a seemingly total ignorance of what happened.

Bob Iger actually cancelled the show way ahead of any public pressure to do so.

It's been going on for decades really, so...

I haven't seen "No, you're the real racists for thinking that black people are like apes, please ignore all context". But then, I've seen a few people on my ignore list for worse than that sort of crap.
